How many minimum wins in remaining games to keep CPJ?

7 regular season wins. Which, strangely enough, would give us our first winning record in the conference since 2014 at 5-3.

Too many with their head in the sand about the decayed state of this program and the eroded condition of our fan base at this moment in time.

Regardless of all other factors, a coach cannot lose the fan base.

Firing CPJ after this year under almost any circumstance would not work with out the budget. We just hired Woody, and since a new HC would likely bring his own DC, that's 2 major coaches we would have to pay to not work here. I believe next year should be the line in the sand with CPJ. He should have out full support until at least a couple games into next year. I think we will see a major change in the on-the-field product with our defense having a full year in the system and with a QB that has been developing at the position for his entire time at Tech. (Remember Taquon played AB as a true freshman in 2015 and started at QB basically as a redshirt freshman in 2017.)

UGA fans want PJ forever, its highly unlikely that we will ever beat them again.
That complaint made sense after going 0-4 from 2010-2013. Doesn't make a lot of sense after going 2-2 from 2014-2017.

CNW is owed $600,000 for 2019, FYI. So, on your theory that firing CPJ means firing CNW too (not a given), CNW's buyout adds 15% to the cost of firing CPJ. That's not going to have a huge impact on the decision, IMHO.

(That's not to say I think CPJ is going to be fired this year. I think things would have to get really ugly – not just in terms of on-field performance, but also in terms of team and/or staff chemistry, interactions with boosters/fans/media, etc. – for CPJ to be fired this year.)

It is starting to feel a lot like when Hewitt lost some of his core assistants to coaching jobs - Bohannon and Monken are gone; fundamentals starting to slip. We still haven't recovered from that.

?? As did a majority. Seven wins, I don't see anything happening. Team would have won seven of eight and be headed to a bowl. No way a change is made. My reasoning is six (total) may be enough, based on what those wins look like. Again, it would be a fairly strong ending with a bowl, but it wouldn't excite the base. A five-win season, a buyout is likely to happen. Is this controversial?

Nah. Not true, actually. We UGA fans don't enjoy playing an option team the week before a possible league championship. Don't enjoy the extra preparation that goes into it. Sadly, a lot of younger fans want to drop the series entirely because "what do we get out of it?" Which angers me, since it's always been the biggest game of the season to me.

A win over uga or a bowl win gaurentees he stays. 6-7 with a bowl loss is probably the minimum to squeak by. I don't see him staying if we miss a bowl 2 years in a row.

Man, I think things have gotten fairly ugly already. In regards to what you said about boosters&fans, I belive that T.S. will look very closely at season ticket sales for 2019. Also, what about ditching PJ, promoting Woody to HC and letting him promote one of his assistants to DC ?

Seems risky at this point. Woody is still unproven as a DC at gt. There was a time that people suggested firing cpj and promoting ctr - think about how that would've worked out.

I don't think we should make Woody HC, but if Paul is let go at the end of this season I would like to see Woody retained by the new HC. I am seeing improvement each week and am optimistic about the level he can get our defense to.

Woody would not have been on our radar except that he was hired as our DC — and so far there’s been mild improvement but no miracle. Not a HC resume yet.

This to keep his job:
Make it to a minor bowl game.
Dismiss all assistant coaches on the offensive side of the ball, that includes all GAs . Find better GAs.
Make CAM the commander of recruiting and no meddling from anyone. All assistant coaches answer to him regarding recruiting.
No more trips to Hawaii for recruiting. Hit Texas, New Jersey, Penn, Mississippi hard. If you can't recruit at least (3) three plus star players a year, you're gone. Sorry Coach Woody, but you're going to have to hit the recruiting road too.
The defensive coordinator gets first choice of any player recruited as an athlete and can take any offensive player that he feels will help the defense.
Hire additional professional personnel for S&C . Damn we can't finish.

I would add that CAMs role be transitioned to not be a position coach. I've been unimpressed in that regard.

Look, we were better than them in 2014 and almost ööööed it up. 2016 we got lucky, 2 wins isn't a trend or whatever people on here try and make it. I promise it will be a long, long, time before we win there again.

Hate to say it, but you're right. Linebackers have been pretty unimpressive for two years now.

He has been at safeties since 2016. Either way, he should be eating, sleeping and breathing recruiting. He certainly hasn't shown himself to be irreplaceable as a position coach, but as a recruiter, we need him.
