How the option is supposed to be run: Navy vs ND

I remember the game. Wasn't that during Gailey's first year?

Maybe you're right.

And if you are, wouldn't that be during PJ's first year?

(now you see my confusion)

Actually GSU teams from 90-01 ran that option even faster than Navy ever could. That is because PJ's QBs at GSU ran 4.4 - 4.45, his starting A-backs ran 4.31 and 4.41 and he had Adrian Peterson at B back. Including playoff games at GSU, Peterson rushed for more than 9,000 yards in his GSU career from that B back position, including 154 against UGA. No other back did that against UGA that season, and it wasn't against the second teamers.

Navy's backs were mid 4.55 to 4.7 speed guys. They were just very disciplined.

At GSU, PJ was really mad when his QB rushed for less than 100 yards in a game. For this offense to work, the QB has to get the right read and not be afraid to turn it up the field if the hole is there.

That's the one thing that I see Nesbitt lacking at this time. Once he learns to make those reads correctly, his yardage will greatly increase, as will the yards for the A and B backs. This is a QB driven offense that rewards the other backs handsomely when run correctly.

The last time we played Navy at Grant Field was 2000 (40-13 win). We also won at Navy in the '99 opener (49-14?). This was the game that O'Leary had to HC from the press box because on an NCAA violation.

Instead of "discussing it" you could look it up online. it is easy to find the answers if you try..

Your sources reek. Chan the Man wasn't hired until December of 2001. O'Leary was still HC for the '01 season.

the sources are fine, it was user error. i used RR.com, but was hasty in my posting. i got confused because the news releases for the 2001-2002 season have references to Gailey, but as you say, he was not hired until after the season, where OLeary was still coach during the year

i will go back and fix the post. my mistake

Actually, Oleary only faced CPJ once, and that was at Grant Field in '96 when PJ was the Navy OC. PJ's offense schooled us for 36 points and we scored 26. I remember being so frustrated that day that we couldn't stop little Navy and get the ball back in the final minutes of the game down 29-26. Seems like they had about a six minute drive to score a TD at the end of that game. They ate our lunch with the B back dive.
