But JT is starting to convince me he can win here. We all know he has the fire on the field.

My #1 concern is I don't mind him calling the D from the sidelines at first...but eventually he needs to let it go.

I think he would be a big proponent of a more open spread/innovative offense.

I am starting to like this guy.

For JT to get the job...this would be my ideal
- Fire Geis
- Fire Modkins
- Fire Hunter
- Fire Bond
- Hire a True QB coach instead of having a RB coach (just unneeded)
- Keep Kelly
- Keep Giff, but promote him to DC
- Keep BJ
- Hire a new DL coach
- Hire Geoff Collins back as a TE coach and recruiting coord (HE WILL COME BACK...Gauranteed)
- Hire a new WR/RB coach as a combo
- Get a new guy to run a more UF style attack or Oregon style at OC

I agree with 33 and jacketup.

I think CJT would support any offense that keeps his defense on the sidelines.

Not to mention putting white 'n gold back in the stands.

Giff could still be DC and DL coach. Will need to add a DB coach unless JT keeps that role.

If we have to take an assistant, i prefer JT. My real choices are Paul Johnson and Chris Hatcher.

33jacket are you foreshadowing something;), or am I so desperate that I'm seeing ghosts?

no foreshadowing...this is purely opinion.

to the others.

I like Coach D. He isn't the problem
Giff could do DL and DC coach i agree...I wouldn't mind hiring a secondary coach in place of DL ...that works

Jon wants the job, he is going to show everyone he can speak to the public and media. He is going to get deep consideration.

he is showing it enough to make me start to like him.

FYI...need to talk about collins.

Sure would make a lot of sense to just give it to him. Being at Tech for six years allows us to completely eliminate the learning curve that will surely impede the progress of a new guy.

I can't think of a single negative other than possibly a lack of closing skills with recruits and their parents. Chan had that going on like nobody's business. And I don't think that's a huge consideration - just an observation.

I'm starting to lean toward JT myself as well. Keep JT and the Defensive boys and clean the offensive house.

If JT is hired this is what I would like to see happen:

Tenuta - HC / DC
Smith - Asst HC / RC / DL
BJ - stays in current role

I think that Tenuta would offer an OC the same type of autonomy that he had as DC and with the above configuration there would be money to pay for a name OC.

Definitely bring back Collins if he wants to come back. He could fill a spot on the D or O staff. He was DC at Western Carolina.

Make sure to give Giff Smith a raise large enough that he is not going anywhere.

Why would you do that? He's the only offensive coach who actually coaches.

Because one of the reasons we've had six years of poor passing is that we have had six years of poor pass blocking (and don't give me the sacks stat--our QBs' were taught to throw it away first--check the completion %, then we will talk).

Because one of the reasons Reggie couldn't throw over the middle is that our OL could not create a pocket with passing lanes.

Because in the last game I saw, UNC, Bond thought we could throw quick passes on the goal line, and we could not even block for quick passes. The first attempt should have been a safety, the second was a fumble by Bennett.

Six years of poor pass blocking, that is why.

Everyone who knows Coach D likes him, so they defend him. Being likable does not make one a good coach or produce an OL that gets after people.

I'm starting to warm up to the idea of Tenuta also. IF we dont get a high profile Off. Guy like Jimbo Fisher... At least we would know that defense around here would still be important.

I would love to see Jon be HC and like Pete Carroll does, be his own DC also...But, I would hope he brings in a great OC/Qb coach.
I would also love to see him keep Giff and bring back Collins...We need recruiting to pick up a notch or two in order to keep up with ugag...I would hope we get better talent at DB and at QB in particular.
