I believe

I believe the hey day of the TO was the wishbone and no I don't think it depended on cut blocking. Cut blocking in the option came as a compensation for inferior lines after the option fell out of fashion. In the hey day the best teams in the country were running the wishbone and they didn't need to cut block due to their talent level.

So if we recruited a solid OL you could in theory go back to running wishbone or something along those lines? I'm thinking everyone thinks the TO is dead because PJ's version of it is most affected by the rule changes, right?

did you not see his Hawaii offenses? nobody gives a öööö about blocking. he works with what he has.

This block is now illegal.

Its illegal now anywhere outside the tackle box.
Is it illegal anywhere outside the tackle box or for players that don't start in the tackle box?, feels like that was a distinction, but they may have eliminated the distinction recently.

That call would be borderline though and I bet not called

It is illegal outside the tackle box with no exceptions. New for 2022 I believe.

And to address @BeeStorm's comment, that block was absolutely critical for the play, else the QB would not have had enough time to throw. Even with the block the defender ended up about a yard from the QB as he threw.

did you read the whole sentence grandpa? I said that the CUT was not critical. a normal block would have done the same thing.

That little guy gonna block a linebacker? Doubtful. One of the keys of a cut block is that it makes defenders slow down in anticipation of being cut. Without being able to cut, that LB is gonna plow the little AB coming across. AB will have no leverage since he is moving mostly toward the sideline whereas the LB is coming directly at the QB.

Might want to go back to your D&D game.

This is insane to me. Seems like the block is less dangerous outside the box since you aren’t having to guess which of the 3 guys in a 3 point stance across from you is coming for your knees. You just have one dude running at you. Protect yourself.

and i could be wrong, that Coach Dodd was the HC and Athletic Director for a few years. If we let Stansbury go, along with Collins we could offer AD money and HC money to a real football coach.
Dodd was the AD from early 50s until the late 70s I think. He's remembered for his record as a coach, not as an AD. GTAA was in worse financial shape at the end of Dodd's tenure than we are now. Independent status was not a good financial move for us, and it was 100% Dodd's call. Homer Rice did a great job turning things around. I'm guessing Paul Johnson wouldn't want the job today if it were offered to him, but his performance as coach wouldn't necessarily make him a strong candidate.

That's the B-back. Also, the LB is focused on the QB, rather than trying to blow up the blocking BB. The BB doesn't have to knock down the LB, just get in his way for a second or 2 for the QB to get the pass off or decide to run.
Just an example:
Days is the BB and traditionally blocks the defender on a pass rollout that JT pulls down and runs.
