Donnan said when asked, that Fsu was his favorite now to win the ACC, he said that GT has yet to play the good athletic Defenses as they will against, Fsu, Miami and Ugag. Luginbill nodded his head as if he agreed...I think there are still a few non-believers still on this offense.

I know we have played against 4 pretty good defenses in BC, Vt, Miss.State and Clemson and we have done OK, How do you guys feel about the defenses of Fsu, Miami and Ugag...I do feel they will be faster than the defenses we have already played, (I personally think Fsu may be the best of the 3) but, if we did well so far on the defenses we have played, I think we will have success in these last 5 games.

Thoughts?

Who has FSU played again? I know all those monster offenses that their vaunted defense took down...

Not the point, Fsu has talent on the defensive side of the ball and as said yesterday on Espn they are flying to the ball, like the days of old, I think they are no. 1 against the run, they have one of the best DC's out there in Andrews, so yes it will be a challenge.

I'm asking if anyone thinks these 3 Defenses of Fsu, Miami and ugag are better than what we have played so far. I'm not at all impressed with Ugag's defensive coordinator as I am the 2 DC's of Miami and Fsu. They are even speaking just now on Espnu that ugag is not getting pressure on the QB and that may get them beat at Lsu this weekend. Never been impressed with Willie Martinez as DC at ugag...

Our defense is definitely keeping us alive as our offense still is not clicking.

In our three big conference games (BC, VT, and Clemson) they have generated 19, 20, and 14 points.

We will get there though.

Donnan is doing what the media is supposed to do: make conversation. Most of these guys don't even write their own stuff, they just play the roles ... kinda like on PTI, it's all scripted.

PTI is scripted? Where did you hear that from?

MSU, BC, VT, and Clemson don't have athletic defenses?

Please, Miami just gave up 31 points to duke and UGA gave up 31 points in the first half to Alabama.

A team that gang tackles is exactly what I want to play against. A team that pisses away a 28 point lead against a hated rival. I am not sold on either Free Shoes or Miami's defenses, especially against our offense. If our O-line pulls its head from its ass, we obliterate both of those schools. Our offense, when working, nullifies their athleticism, which is the only thing their defenses have going. They also put up a crap ton of points on each other, and neither Miami or Free Shoes has something resembling a competent offense. Patrick Nix put 30 points against up against FSU, mostly in one half. Let that sink in.

I am worried about UGA because I think Richt is doing the right thing by having the bye week before they play us. They'll have plenty of game footage and plenty of time to prepare for our offense.

FSU, BC, and GT are all in the top 5 in the country in total defense.

So yes, we've played one team with a defense as good as FSU's, and they held us to 4 yards per carry.

We should do fine, if we can do to their offense what our D is capable of. Expect another low scoring game like VT, BC, and Clemson.

Yes.

This was how we always ran points up against the "great FSU defenses of the past."

UGA's D will be the hardest we face this year IMO with FSU and Miami after that in that order. I did not know that UGA has an extra week before they play us, that really really hurts our chances in my opinion.

It's a fair point - both teams only have one loss, are #1 and #2 in the ACC in essentially every important statistical category, and neither has played an overly difficult schedule. A lot will be determined on the field that day (hopefully both teams win this weekend) and in the next few weeks.

The issue right now isn't how great the defenses are going to be. We've seen good defenses in BC, Clemson, VT and been held in check scoring only 17, 17, and 14 points offensively.

The issues are can our offense improve and can our defense continue the stranglehold on opponents' offenses? Average scoring of 16 for beats 11 against everyday. Miami and FSU don't scare me offensively. They have enough to beat us, but they don't scare me at all. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see our defense score against either of those offenses with the youth in key positions.

This is a yes/no situation. It really depends on where Georgia's position is for the post season. The Tech game could be a big time trap game if Georgia wins the SEC east and has one loss. If they're looking at a rematch against Alabama for the last spot in the BCS, then Tech would have an edge. The talk would be nonstop about GA/AL and Tech would be a side show. Perfect situation for an upset.

Or if Georgia totally tanks (losing to LSU, Florida, and @AU or @KY) they may not care about the game and let go of the rope.

The extra week of practice against the TO will be helpful. But then again, their mind may be on other things.

The post season could also hurt Tech if Georgia is in a heap of one loss teams fighting for BCS points. Georgia could come in really fired up determined to blow out a ranked, solid Tech team to impress pollsters.

It will be interesting to see how the dynamics play out.

Good post, but I don't expect Georgie to ever be so demoralized as to not bring their A game to the GT game. That is how they salvage a 'bad' season. However I think you are still correct in principle if the wheels fall off they may not focus as much on the little things in practices leading up to the game.

Miami laid 39 on FSU with Patrick Nix so it can't be too good. :laugher:

And Duke put up 31 on Miami, not to mention FSU's 41.

I am concerned but not too worried.

Absolutely. It isn't just how good a defense plays. But also the type of defense they play. Gang tackling is exactly what MSU does. They swarm the ball. Anticipate the play and blow it up. The underlying philosophy is that it's unlikely that one guy is going to break a three man tackle. But if you guess the wrong guy, you've got no one on the ball carrier. That is why we killed them and Vandy didn't. MSU matched up poorly against our Offensive scheme.

BC/VT don't swarm. Layer the defense so a missed tackle doesn't turn into a big play. The philosophy is that its unlikely that your defense will miss 3 solo tackles on one play. It also gives you a safety valve if you've DL brings down the wrong player.

Clemson and UGA fall somewhere in between. I think our O will perform much better against FSU and Miami than against UGA and UNC. Our biggest worry against FSU is if the DL can push our tackles back into the QB's running lane (which VT did), forcing Nesbitt to pitch too soon.

All three of those teams should lose this weekend. I don't really know if that's a good or a bad thing for us.

VT @ FSU - VT wraps up when it tackles. Low rushing yards cause FSU to air it out, and turn it over often.
WF @ Miami - Comeback Game - Riley Skinner plays like the Riley Skinner of old
Florida v UGA - Will be a repeat of the UF/LSU game

VT / F$U - good point. I hope F$U wins but they do need to be effective in the run game.
WF @ Miami - something seems to be missing with Wake - they can be slowed down when facing a strong D.

Florida / UGA?

Everything gets thrown out the window for a game like UGA vs. GT. When two teams hate each other it's an emotional bloodbath no matter what the circumstances are...
