I feel sad for the SEC.

They used to be great. But the SEC is now a sad, bald, unshaven old man who wanders around muttering softly to himself about the "old days". I really do feel sorry for my southren brethren. Football supremacy was all they had, and now it's gone.

The ACC now has 6 of the top 16 teams in certain preseason polls. This is by FAR the strongest football conference in the nation. Of course they don't come together for another year but it fair to go ahead and look at it that way. The 6 ranked teams are all going to still be strong (or stronger) in 2004. SEC fans at the office were really hanging their heads today.

USA Today, Kirk Herbstreet, and countless other media outlets have bestowed the title of top-tier or number one football conference on ACC in past days and we haven't even gotten to 12 yet!

Just imagine being an SEC fan right now given these facts...

-SEC Schools are horrid academically.

-SEC Schools exist in the middle of nowhere. Easy to get 80,000 fans at games when it's the only game in town.

-SEC payout per school payout couldn't match the ACC when we were a "weak 9 team basketball conference". Lord help them now.

-10 of 12 are involved with the NCAA in a non-positive way (sanctions, investigations, etc..). Only UF and Vandy are clean. And UF may be leaving soon for greener pastures. (Much greener).

-SEC Football was freakin embarrasing it was so bad last year.

-Expansion makes the ACC the best football conference which brings football recruits to the ACC which takes them away from the SEC.

-SEC fans are worried, panicy, and defensive on message boards/in media.

-UGA is in the SEC. UGA is home to ring-selling, cheating, raping, sword-wielding, turncoat, maniac "student-athletes". Trust me, You don't want to be in a conference that houses ring-selling, cheating, raping, sword-wielding, turncoat, maniac "student-athletes".

There's nothing left to proud of in the SEC. No good, no glory, nothing but hype, discord, and angry lost fans.

To be honest, even though the ACC is the most top-heavy football conference, the Big 12 may be comprable in some years top to bottom (darn NC schools...). Oh well, they do make us number 1 in basketball.

Though the years will be required to bear this out, this is one of the greatest days in Georgia Tech Athletic history. God I'm glad GT is part of this.

ACC = "United States of America".
SEC = "Old Europe".

VICTORY!!!!!!!!!
VICTORY!!!!!!!!!

Ummmmm, I wouldn't expect sound the death knell on the SEC. They're always going to be a power conference. When you look at average SAT scores for SEC schools, Vandy, Uga, Uf, and Lsu all rate comparably to most ACC schools. This is great for the ACC but it doesn't have to be about downing someone else.

As defined in Modern English...

inferiority complex
n.

A persistent sense of inadequacy or a tendency to self-diminishment, sometimes resulting in excessive aggressiveness through overcompensation and denigration.

tsk tsk.

swGAboy, agree about not having to down someone else, but what I'm sure you'd find interesting (and disturbing),is a comparison of SATs between GT's latest class vs, ugag's or UF's, not to mention CU,NCSU,& AU. THWG

Well, some, anyway.

I may not have dentures, but I sure do have a mouth full of bridges. If the market never recovers, I might have to extract all the gold and sell it.

ZEn, not until BDG's astute observation did I recognize yours as a first time post. Man, what a great compilation of thought and intermingled facts!!
The remark about Florida particularly caught my eye, especially in light of the fact that Frank Broyles listed them as possibly one of the schools the ACC will try to take from the SEC. Are things being said elsewhere? Now that would send the ACC into SOME kind of ORBIT.
Again, it sure is exciting to see this thing unfold. I was, at first, reticent toward the inclusion of VPI, but am very excited about it after more comtemplation.

Hopefully we'll finish 3-0 in the SEC this year.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Florida in the ACC would be sweet because UGAg would immediately panic over losing the precious Gators and the SEC would become the 3rd or 4th best league in the US. I don't think it would happen, but i think the state of Florida would enjoy the 3 dog fight of Miami, F$U and UF.

The last thing Tech needs is U of F in the ACC when the Gators are our only insurance policy for a UGA conference loss in the SEC. If U of F left the SEC, who will take their place as guaranteed Dog beaters?

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Do you have a link to each player's SAT scores? I would be pretty interested to see if that actually held up. I know that everyone from last years class passed into University, which rarely happens.

Oh, I'm sorry, wrong finger.
How high does an SAT score need to be to qualify for "Principles and Strategies of Basketball Coaching" nowdays? If my business ever needs a basketball coach, UGetanA's SAT geniuses will be first on the list.
