With this D every team on our shedule will score tone of points. Our O has to score on every possession from now on to the rest of the year. Impossible, we're going to lose some games we shoudn't
 
Yeah but after Vt next week, what other high powered offenses will be play that can put that many yards up? I'm not saying that our D doesn't give up to many points a game, but you have to remember we've played some pretty good offenses.
 
Only teams we have to worry about with our D-fense are great passing teams. Our run defense is much better. Also notice, we were missing probably our 3rd best defender after Morgan and Burnett, Anthony Eg.(don't know how to spell rest of name) #41.

Look I admire people being optimistic, but we have,'t been good all yr with Hall, Anthony .... and whomever. Our Defense is bad because of a bad D CO. No way around it . Our D players are as talented as any in the ACC

Yes, very true. I hope Wommack gets lucky next week in his game plan for VT.

I can't agree with that completely. When you bring a full house blitz and can't even come close to the QB then there's a talent differential.
 
They got some pressure on him in the 2nd half finally. It would be just like our defense to somehow shut VT down.

Talent, or technique, or the scheme is too obvious.

I agree that talent is a part of it, but in the first half it always seemed like they kept one guy to help the QB, and wherever that guy was that is where we decided to bring the extra defender. Also, the team doesn't seem to understand that if the entire front four beat their OLmen on the same play, it is the pass play where they dump it over your head. That play is a Hokey favorite.

Took a quick look at our schedule. Duke and Wake are #11 and #16 in the nation in passing yards per game. I caught a bit of the Duke vs. NCSU game yesterday and if our pass defense or pass rush does not improve, I think we'll have another offensive shootout except with Duke.

I think we're going to have another offensive shootout against every team we play. It's getting almost comical how every game goes like the following: 1) people say the defense needs to step up 2) the defense gives up a ton of yards/points 3) people then say it's the best offense we'll play all year.

Our defense sucks guys, plain and simple. After seven games, there's no tweaks or motivational tactics you can employs. Every game we win is going to have to be like this one or like U[sic]GA last year.

Oh crap. Well at least their QBs might make some mistakes to help out our defense. Their defenses aren't that good, so I guess it will be another shootout with them.
 
I disagree. The staff has PROVEN it can adjust. Yes, we have a deficiency of big time talent at key defensive positions, but we will get better. And the offense is going to limit the defense's time on the field and deny the opponent possessions.
 
I'm not as bothered by this year as I am when you look at the end of last year plus this year. Last year, we had tons of talent on the DL. And yet we actually started giving up more points as the year went on. I know we had a weak secondary last year, but this shows me that it has to do with coaching (not just bad players).
 
Duke lit up NC ST throwing for close to 500 yards and Wake destroyed the Terps by passing. UVA puts up 49 on Indiana.....I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel for this defense....and then there's VPI. Only Vandy looks bad at the moment.
 
Hell, even Baby Cox, and the puppy dog offense put up 40+ against South Carolina and Arkansas. Our Defense is a liability, no ifs, ands, buts, or qualifiers about it.
 
You have to remember that football is a team sport. You can't seperate the offense, defense or special teams. They all have to feed off of each other. We finally have a Coach who understands this concept and preaches it every day. When the defense is having issues the offense has to find a way to help out and vice versa, the special teams has to deliver field position or those field goals when you have to have them. You don't reach your potential by complaining about your teammate not getting their job done, you realize you have to pick up the load and bail your teammate out if you can. You have to have each others back.

What I am encouraged about with this team is they have the fight and heart of a champion. Heck even in the Miami game, we were battling at the end and if Bay Bay had caught that pass at the end we would have been lining up for an onside kick to tie the bastards. You did not see any quit even that night.

We are going to have to scrap for every game the rest of the way, and the odds are long that we will pull every one of them out, but, we will have the chance to do that because this team wants it and their Coach demands it out them.

With all due respect, our D players are not. Womack may not be good but we get no push from our line, our LB's are non-existent, and our DB's can't cover or tackle. Our AA FS can only play centerfield.
