I hate to say this after a huge win

You have to remember that football is a team sport. You can't seperate the offense, defense or special teams. They all have to feed off of each other. We finally have a Coach who understands this concept and preaches it every day. When the defense is having issues the offense has to find a way to help out and vice versa, the special teams has to deliver field position or those field goals when you have to have them. You don't reach your potential by complaining about your teammate not getting their job done, you realize you have to pick up the load and bail your teammate out if you can. You have to have each others back.

What I am encouraged about with this team is they have the fight and heart of a champion. Heck even in the Miami game, we were battling at the end and if Bay Bay had caught that pass at the end we would have been lining up for an onside kick to tie the bastards. You did not see any quit even that night.

We are going to have to scrap for every game the rest of the way, and the odds are long that we will pull every one of them out, but, we will have the chance to do that because this team wants it and their Coach demands it out them.

Go Jackets!

Jerry the Jacket,

You make a good point, while we bash the defense and praise the offense, we should realize that its both sides of the ball that makes a team. Thanks for setting me straight!!

Go Jackets!!! :fingersx:

Look I admire people being optimistic, but we have,'t been good all yr with Hall, Anthony .... and whomever. Our Defense is bad because of a bad D CO. No way around it . Our D players are as talented as any in the ACC
and you know this how? Forget the DC, if the position coaches had guys paying attention to their assignments we'd be doing much better than we have been. I know it all goes back to the DC but he's not the only one having issues.

+1

I think we gotta clean house on most, if not all, of the defense staff to fix these problems. The DB's do not know their assignments on most of the plays which doesn't help a team that is not putting pressure on players. Our d-lineman do not have great technique to fill gaps and break contain way too often. (As much I love you D-Morgan you have an issue with this as well. I've seen you Dwight Freeney spin move yourself right out of contain several times this year already.) The linebackers take poor angles and cannot shed blocks, plus they do not disguise or time their blitzes well at all (this did get better in the second half.)

I really think we gotta look at some serious house keeping if we want this team to take another leap over the next 1-5 years.

the defense made a handful of GREAT plays last night. Some sacks, a strip. They made some mistakes too, but we are training a boat load of young guys right now. By four games into the 2010 season we will be a top notch defense.

Ponder had 264 yards passing in the first half.

Yeaaah... Congrats to the defense on the stops we did get in the second half, but the first half's play was simply unacceptable. I have never any defense, at any level of play, against any opponent, go through a half letting 5 TD's on 5 possessions, especially when our offense didn't turn the ball over once. Chan/Tenuta were seriously overmatched talent-wise in a couple of games they've played and I didn't see it then either.

At the end of the day, VPI's defense IS much better than FSU's. One of the top 5 defenses in the nation really. Thankfully VPI doesn't have FSU's receivers, but we need to step it up a lot next week, at least to the level we played in the second half.

With this D every team on our shedule will score tone of points. Our O has to score on every possession from now on to the rest of the year. Impossible, we're going to lose some games we shoudn't

If you hate to say it...then don't

Last night was a perfect example of a good OC doing his job
There's a reason Jimbos the CIW

He spread the field and took advantage of mismatches. Which was the ONLY shot of winning Case closed

Our D ... Regardless of ydg is a decent/good D. We've played 3 good Offenses who utilized their speed to their advantage and prayed they outscored us

I don't give a **** if we give up 10000 yds a game as long as we WIN!!!! Period

Anyone who knows football will tell you that. The rest is just something to work on

If we're 11 - 1 at the end of the season no one will care about the yds we give up

Statistics ARE FOR LOSERS!

W's are the only thing that matters

Guys it ain't a X's and O's that's the problem. We look bad talent wise. Rushing the QB isn't a "Ooops wrong position" Hell you don't get scored on every down because your guys are in thte wrong spot. We're young, I hope it's gets better.

It's both. Is our talent really THAT bad that we rush all of the front 7 and every last one of them gets picked up, even the guys on the perimeter?

As somebody asked before if the LB's are not:

1. Tackling running backs,
2. Getting pressure on the QB, or
3. Covering WR's

Where the hell are they? I feel like we're playing Madden and some bug is making our LB's disappear after the ball is snapped.

At some point, personal pride has to be looked at. These guys need to take a hard look at themselves and decide that they want to make a difference and start making plays.

Exactly. So much of defense is about emotion. Where was that last night?

I think we're going to have another offensive shootout against every team we play. It's getting almost comical how every game goes like the following: 1) people say the defense needs to step up 2) the defense gives up a ton of yards/points 3) people then say it's the best offense we'll play all year.

Our defense sucks guys, plain and simple. After seven games, there's no tweaks or motivational tactics you can employs. Every game we win is going to have to be like this one or like U[sic]GA last year.

I swear, our fanbase or a vast majority and You include "Suck, Plain and Simple". The vast majority of the Above name people continue approach and evaluate the team and games played after the fact the goddamny blinders on!!!

You people (and I'm referring to you and those that feel the way that you do) continue to only look at the games played by the amount of yds and points scored by the opposing team. THIS GAME IS NOT THAT SIMPLE quite frankly.

You all rarely and almost ever actually give or award DUE CREDIT to the other team and their OFFENSIVE CORDINATORS, and that my fellow Stingtalkers and Tech Fanbase (or some of your) is a MAJOR and I do mean MAJOR Contributing factor to game outcomes and internal statistics (which once again "statistics are for ****ing losers"

Jimbo Fisher was at the time of his hire and still is one of the the best Offensiver Coordinators in College Football. Last night atleast for the first half of the game showed just how good he was.

Like I said earlier, he did a great job of SPREADING THE FIELD AND UTILIZING AND ATTACKING MISMATCHES using his athletes, athleti**** and their speed. This was going to be the one of if not the only way that he would have a chance of winning the game last night. PLAIN AND SIMPLE like you said earlier GTH816

In regards to our DC, his game plan was fine. Unfortunately once again we got very little help from our Defensive Line and fought Double Teams and OL help.
His 2nd Half plan and adjustments was/were fine (so that shows how good of a coordinator he is and can be going forward). We gave up a ton less yardage and only 9 pts in the second half. Which by the way, was something we verly rarely saw from Tenuta that I can recall

Again, the bottom line is to win the damn game. We did that. We did that on the road at a place that we've never won and we did that with a team that's very young and showed a lot of heart.

We're 5-1 and we've now played 4 ACC opponents 4 all of which have the atheletes and coaches to end up having good seasons.

IF YOUR SO CONCERNED WITH STATS, take a look at the win loss column and look at the left hand side of it because that is the only goddamn stat that ****ing matters......again, plain and simple. And if you still can't grasp the basicness and principle of that statement then quite frankly theres not much help out there for you

To all the naysayers....you need to either shut the hell up or go root for another team (and I'm sure that this statement may piss a lot of you off, but honestly could care less and those that are offended you need to really get a new understanding of football and how the game is played.

If you're wondering if I'm drunk, etc.......the answer is NO. What I am is passionate and for the most part intelligent when it comes to Ga Tech, Ga Tech Athletics, and how most Ga Tech sports are played (and you'll never hear me talk about Volleyball, soccer, tennis or diving)

PS...gth, we've only played 6 games not 7.

Until both special teams and defense improve considerably, there is no point in discussing ACC championships, BCS bowls, top 10 rankings and the like. I submit that there is both a talent problem and a sorry derensive coordinator responsible for the defensive deficiencies which are the worst in quite some time. Our linebackers are not instinctive, that is, they don't make plays, our defensive backs let recievers run free in the secondary and the line generates next to nothing in pressure.

You are a retard. Our defense has stunk for a full season's worth of games (2nd half last year, 1st half this year). Nobody is judging it on one game alone.

SURELY you realized this a long time ago. This guy knows nothing. He posts with 100% emotion and 0% logic.

I don't think he realizes that we come on here to discuss how the team plays, not just wins and losses. If all we cared about was looking on the surface at whether we won or not, there'd be no point in having a message board.

Also, my bad on the record thing...getting to Tally from Raleigh and then going through that game takes its toll on a person.

Playing without Egbuniwe didn't help.

He should be back for VT.

As I expected, I get the response that I anticipated from you 3 individuals and or more to come I'm sure. Also, as I expected there was absolutely nothing relevant to what I had posted earlier to rebuttal or to counter the information or my opinions that I've posted. Instead, it was exactly what I thought it would be ... just a bunch of "he's an idiot" or "He knows nothing" or "there are 0 facts" and even "you're a retard"...which was very classy considering that I'd bet that some on here have in there family or know someone who's mentality disabled or challenged. And since I do in fact know some that would fit that criteria I'm. And I'm not about to say that I haven't accidentally used that word in previous years and am ashamed, but I make damn sure that I apologize to the fullest if I do in fact make that mistake

In response to that Ish.....I'm at every home game and most away games so why don't you meet me in lot W21 on the top part and I'll show you just how much of a retard I am when I break my leg off in your @$$. That my friend is 100% factual and I'd be happy to offer or GIVE you as much proof necessary You immature asshole. I'm never one to look for a violent situation, but I can ABSOLUTELY assure you that I can get involved when needed.

To GSU and gth, where are your facts or info in rebuttal to my "0% factual comments"? I mean since you're so up for discussion You both go about claiming that know I NOTHING, post on emotion, etc. however, when you counter or rebut what I've said you just call me an idiot and move on without showing any evidence that YOU IN FACT know what you're talking about.

I 100% agree that our Defense hasn't performed to par or been outstanding and needs work. However, my argument.... you tiny prepubescent jerk-offs... is that there is a lot more to do with what's going on besides the overall score or yardage given up.

1. Our DC I assure is doing the best he can with the players we have. We are a very young team and he's doing his best to find ways to attack and defend. I don't see where anyone can disagree or challenge this

2. Again, you all claim that we suck, need a new coordinator, etc but have yet to supply or bring to the thread/discussion reasons as to to why. I however offer you this
A: when the Defensive line is young and weak and your best player is getting Double Teamed for 4 qtrs, you leave your secondary exposed and unprotected for big plays and what appears to be terrible coverage/schemes/coordinating
B: when your defensive line is weak of sort, you also have to find various ways to penetrate the LOS (that's Line of Scrimmage in case the 3 of you are scratching your head) by sending LB's, safeties etc to blitz and or attack... which again leaves the field of play open for the opposing team to scheme against and attack

3. Our DC is making adjustments before and during the games and can only do so with what he's got. The proof of the pudding was the 2nd Half of last nights game giving up a ton less yardage and only 9 points.

4. If Morgan comes back, we'll be Hell on the field next year and you 3 will all be blowing and praising Wommack what he's doing thus looking like idiots after the way you've called for his head all season

Bottom Line, Nobody's perfect and you have to make good with what you got when you have it. I GUARANTEE that he's doing just that, and I don't think ANY of us on this site are in a position to ??? his motives and tactics

I'll finish with this....If you think he's so ****ing terrible, tell me a way that he could correct his ways and do a better job. None of you brains / non intelligent (as it relates to athletics more importantly football but I'm sure you can probably all turn a wristwatch into a microwave ... congratulations on that by the way) jokers can explain or have yet to do so in all of your so called "DISCUSSIONS" as gth816 put it

The 3 of you have yet to show me exactly what is or are wrong with this assessment or other assessments at that. Instead you just throw out the he's an idiot or knows nothing in hopes that it sticks as a counter or rebuttal which I could careless about and actually get a good laugh at so .... THANK YOU

So in short... YOU three intelligent guys can kiss my ass if you have a problem with this post.......or you know what...scratch that.

Just show me something that's wrong with it or bring an idea of how to fix our defensive situation

We're 5-1 and the season for the most part hinges on this Saturday to come........GO JACKETS

You three......have a great week
