that the teams that build depth on defense ARE the teams that are consistently good, week in and week out...this is so true..

THIS, will be the test of whether we will be good or VERY good in the Paul Johnson era here at GT...We all know that we will be unstoppable on offense in future years but, our future is about building depth on defense...I think we are close, if we keep on recruiting good defensive players like we have the last 2 years, I would like another Dt or two in next years class as we are losing 3 very good DT's.

Next year will be tough defensively I believe. Womacks strategy requires good pressure at the DL and we will be a bit inexperienced after Walker,Johnson,Richards leave. I think we have good talent waiting, but not tested. Plus I agree that depth at DL will be an issue.

I'm hoping his strategy will adjust next year to a more experienced Defensive Backfield and less experienced Defensive Line. We have the luxury of relying on our experienced DL this year, so it makes sense that his strategy requires DL pressure this season. Next season he will get the chance to prove his defensive schemes are not one-trick ponies, unlike our last defensive coordinator.

Derrick Morgan is a beast at one DE, and Jason peters will be very good at the other, with Robert Hall thrown in for good measure. Derrick will be a 2-year starter by next fall, with Jason and Robert getting a lot of minutes this year. We don't know what Egbuniwe can do, but he looks very quick in practice. He's a player. We'll be OK at DE with a 4 man rotation.

At DT we will have TJ Barnes, who already looks beastly. He will lack experience, though. To go with him we will have Logan Walls, who is getting good PT this year and looks good, and Ben Anderson, who is a chunk of rock. We will have to mature at DT, but we have the ability to be good in the middle, too. We'll have a 3 man rotation there unless we pick up another who can step right in. Due to our DE's, we may also can move one inside on passing downs to get extra penetration, like we did the last two years.

The secondary and LB's should be very solid next year.

I think we'll we OK overall, with some learning along the DL early on.

I'm just hoping PJ doesn't steal too many more players off the defensive side of the ball for his offense. Fridge used to do that, and it killed our defensive depth.

I think we are recruiting better now than we were then.....at least on paper. We look to be getting enough depth to get the job done on both sides of the ball.

It sucks that we couldn't redshirt Derrick Morgan last year, but with the injury to Hall we had to play him. Really would've liked to have 3 more years of him, and Nesbitt.

We need defensive tackles badly and I think you'll see at least one playing next year as a freshman.

We might see Jason Peters pick up some weight and move inside as a D tackle. I believe he would be a better fit at DT and stand more playing time.

YOU GOT THAT RIGHT...
We need to ask Dems if the coaching staff is still recruiting John Drew...losing him to Duke will hurt..

It is not something we can really recruit against....John Drew's brother will play for NCSU next year...and he wants to be near him. They will be 10 minutes from each other.

Vance Walker may be our best DT ever. IIRC, he was a late recruiting pickup, rated two-star.

Coleman Rudolph, IIRC, was a linebacker convert.

George Patton for Ugh was a high school QB. Dooley even let him play QB for a series when he was a senior.

Who has he stolen?

Lockhart... even though he was supposedly always going to be on offense.
