I left at halftime

We left towards the end of the 3rd quarter, but alot of that decision was made because I had foot surgery 8 days prior and was hurting badly and didn't bring even Advil or Tylenol for the pain. Had the Jackets been winning by a small margin, I may have toughed it out and stayed, but I was at the game against doc's orders in the first place! oh, well... Happy New Year Jackets fans!

Oh man I feel for you. I have been ailing myself and am using crutches but can't walk very much so guest services at the Dome carried me around in a wheelchair (kudos to Mr. Waymon Ware from Guest Services who was very helpful leading up to the game). I am paying a price today in that I'm hurting from too much standing up and walking around. I wish I had known where you were as I could have given you some of the ibuprofen I had with me (and I even had a couple of vicodin in case it got too unbearable).

Good luck with your foot. I hope it heals fully and quickly.

If we don't blow the onside kick and fumble the punt, we're not in that situation to start with. Our own mistakes killed us last night. Mistakes will do that, but when you're playing what amounts to a top 10/15 team, you get drilled.

LSU's D was stout last night, but we wrote our own ticket in the first half of that game.
+1

That was one bone headed call on the fake punt with 8 yards to go deep in LSU territory and of all things having a DE try and make it for you. Everyone in our section was shocked and disgusted on that call. I replayed it on tv when I got home last night to see what the announcers said, and it was not flattering. That call and the one in the Miami game are really 2 bad miscues PJ. made. Hopefully he learns from these mistakes and we move on.
According to PJ's comments we should have audibled out of the fake when we saw LSU's defensive setup.

I don't doubt that --really surprised though that we were in a situation to have to audible out of a fake punt from that position of the field. My seats were on the 20 and the play was right between my eyes --I was shocked really.

Thing is though if Morgan was just a little more fleet of foot he could have picked it up. Sneak 21 in for 91 and I think it works --unless of course LSU sees it and adjusts or calls a TO.

That confirms my suspicion that LSU knew we were going to run a fake punt. Their defensive alignment made no sense to me for a team expecting a punt from the 20 yard line.

Which makes me wonder: how would LSU know we had a fake punt in the game plan and what tipped them off that we were going to run it on that particular play?

That makes more sense. If PJ saw a big deficiency in their punt return alignment where eight yards should be a sure deal, then I can't blame him.

There's also the issue that LSU probably would have scored anyway after a punt with so much momentum on their side. Along with the usual defensive alignment, PJ probably thought it was scoring on that drive or bust.

That logic also says why Les might have guessed we would fake it. He's another coach known for taking unorthodox chances, like his fake onside kick.

Awwww, man! I could have definitely used something for the pain. I've also been paying the price for going to the game. Our players should know what we fans go thru for them! ;) Thanks for the well-wishes. I hope you feel better soon, too!

Good question - I noticed that, too.

Why would they have to know anything? LSU knew we were in a bad situation and that giving up the ball was the worst thing that could happen to our D right then. Any coach would have been looking for a fake given the situation IMO. They weren't necessarily expecting it, but knew it was the kind of situation an aggressive coach might try something. Miles is that kind of coach as well, so he probably thought it was something he might try.

The problem was our team did not recognize what LSU was doing and audible out of the fake like they were supposed to.
