I MAY have been wrong about Sims

We need to play Simms every game and then just expect to probably lose two or three games because of turnovers. Our "system" is not going to score on its own. Roll the dice, and don't get mad when the dice come up wrong.
So you think he will turn the ball over at the same rate without improvement?

Remarkable post after we put up 45 on a ranked conference foe.

Yes. In my opinion it's better to risk turnovers with the ability to score on P5 opponents than to outright lose by kicking FG's

Exactly.

Simms, should he start all year, is going to have a 3 turnover game at some point, and we're going to lose that game. Start him anyway. He can turn option runs into 40 yard gainers and can score from outside the red zone. That's worth pissing a couple of games away over. We need him and he's worth it.

I would have rolled the dice when we were 6 yards away from tying Clemson at the end of 4th quarter. If you don’t take any risks you’re gonna lose those 2 or 3 games anyway. Pussyfooting around doesn’t get you anywhere in life or football. That’s with any “system”.

My honest feeling is Sims is going to continue to be both the guy that was lights out against UNC in the 2nd half, and the guy who stunk it up 1st quarter against NIU. He's both players. The good thing is you have a now more experienced, steadier if less explosive Jordan Yates to step in when things start to go south.

There's nothing to indicate any of this will happen this year.

We can revisit this later and see.

What we need to be doing is running more option with Sims, and more QB draws. He's electric on the ground, and the turnover chance goes down.

The defense has come a long way since then too. Iirc, we collapsed defensively at the end of NIU

One thing he does well is change directions without slowing down. He completely juked that defender on one of his TD runs.

I don’t think we need to run too much option with Sims (or rpo). He is a solid intermediate passer. That’s how he unseated Graham. Where I would like him to improve is pocket awareness. He bolts from the pocket too soon sometimes. It’s understandable considering how well he runs, but once teams start putting a spy on him again, he might do better to remain in the pocket and dump the ball off to Gibbs or Smith.

While we're all here talking about Sims, can we agree that we don't need to add any additional "M"s to his name.

Sims was great; I hope people at least admit he is a great runner and helps that part of the offense. I also think he is a cool customer and will perform well in tight situations.

Still not sure how he will perform if a team can stack the box and force him to throw down the field; reading defenses, accuracy, and ball security are all work in progress.

who left on our schedule can stack the box and make that happen though, outside of the mutts?

Teams tried to do this against JoeHam, LJax, Vick and other runner-gunner QBs and generally got torched. If Sims can make the throws, we'll torch 'em too.

I think Simms will show tremendous improvement in the turnover stat. A lot of his last year were a result of running for his life because he had very little protection.

If Sims isn’t turning the ball over he’s 100% our best option at QB. That’s never really been in doubt. Yates’s best quality relative to Sims was ball security.
Yates seems to run the offense with a steadier hand than Sims but it lacks any explosion at all and just plods. Sims legs by themselves are so dangerous that it can change defensive game plans. Yates will not do anything to give a DC headaches like that. My problem with Sims was that he seemed very inaccurate to the point of was he ever going to be a full feature QB or just the running part of dual threat? Well, Sims earned his job back and then some. I think he has earned a very long leash, if not for the remainder of the year, because his ceiling is so high. Yates is steady but we are at his ceiling.
