I s it possible that RB was better than TB?

Unfortunately I think our best GT QB's are not in uniform yet....Sean Renfree and Drew Little.

This is only the second year of his life that Taylor Bennett has been a starting QB...and I think it shows. I am just not sure he has "it".

Even though Nesbitt is wild...somehow I feel a bit more confident about moving the ball when he is in there because some of our WR's cannot catch half of the well thrown balls anyway.... at least not lately.

arrgh..frustrating.

The problems with this team are associated with the passing game. Not only on the offensive side of the ball, but also the defensive side. We can't throw and catch and we can't cover and tackle. Could there be a direct correlation between the and the poor performance shown in that part of the game.

The timing between QB and receiver is a bit off, but our receivers don't help the QB cause. The turning point of the game last night, IMO, was when Nesbitt came in for the one series and ran twice, sucked the VT defense in and then threw the incomplete pass to JJ, who made no adjustment to the ball. Then we get the ball right back and JJ coughs it up. GAME OVER.

Still amazes me that we have db's that won't or can't make plays.

At this point, I'd say it's probable, nay likely, that Reggie was a better QB than Taylor. Reggie was bad when he lost composure. Taylor's just plain bad.

I agree that the biggest problem is with our receivers. As a group they are pretty dreadful. Thomas didn't even get a pass thrown to him did he? Is it because he is not getting any separation. James Johnson had one of the most embarrasing nights you could ever have on national TV. Smith dropped his only touch I remember. Peek over the middle had gator arms.

But Taylor was badly off last night. He threw into coverage more than a couple of times. I wanted to see Nesbit for most of the second half. I think he deserves it. Yes he threw up a pass that looked like a punt and was picked. With our receivers only the short dart like passes are going to work I'm afraid.

J Evans bless his heart is too small and too slow. Dwyer likes to bounce it outside but he needs to be getting most of the carries now. Clearly superior.

Why can't our corners turn and play the ball? Why do we continue to give up the short out passes over and over. Why can't our linebackers cover over the middle? I'm sick and tired of watching people blitz and blitz but nobody can stay with a tight end or fullback on a dump route.

Va Tech got 5 INTs because their D backs turn and play the ball....

Sean Renfree is my favorite to win the job next year. I think we will have to find a new position for Nesbitt.

you are an idiot... if you want to make an accurate comparison, look at TB's stats when *HE* had calvin to throw to.

Our receivers are embarassing. We need to fire the receivers coach tonight. They don't catch, make adjustments, or protect the football.. more than onece Ive seen them ball up and not make the catch because they sense a hit coming.. call it bashing if you like but its the same thing every game.

quit pointing the finger at the easiest target for an ignorant fan to identify.

Spot frigig'n on dustjacket ... I see you have played some ball. TB is a good qB its just a shame he'll take the heat for CG's incompetence like most players have had to do. CG tried the "hide behind my players" crap as head coach in Dallas and Aikman would have non of that chicken **** politics.

No. We need to fire Chan Gailey who gets paid $1Million+, again thats $1Million+. Chan Gailey is worse than the Bob Nardelli at Home Depot payout

I think so.

Arm strength: Reggie and its not close
Scrambling: Reggie and its not close
Running: Ditto
Accuracy: Taylor by a nose
Consistency: Even
Decision making: After last night, even
Throwing out of bounds: Reggie (sometimes not intentional)

It's official: Reggie was better.

The thing that baffles me is where the hell did the Gator Bowl performance come from? Was it all b/c of CJ?

I feel like alot of it was. He also felt like he had to prove himself. Who does he have to prove anything to now? We all know Chan starts seniority over talent.

Why is RB better to me? He can run. Taylor cant. Neither can throw, so thats even :P

Hell yes it was all because of CJ. Reggie was only as good as he was because of CJ. Calvin set his single game record for yards, receptions, and probably other stuff in the one game Bennett started. I know WVU's pass defense was bad, but Reggie had played other pass defenses which were just as bad.

Reggie is not, not, not better than Taylor. However, it turns out that Reggie+Calvin was better than Taylor+James Johnson and co.

Whoa, whoa,whoa.

TB has had one really bad performance that was mostly his fault. (Other bad games can be squarely placed on the receivers.) He still needs several more performances like last night to catch up to RB. He has been MUCH more consistent than Reggie was in his last year.

The announcers had it right about TB. TB generally has made good decisions (until last night) and could be a decent complement to a strong running game if we had receivers who were consistent.

It is no surprise that these boards overreact to a single game and make broad sweeping statements that are unjustified. TB had a VERY bad game. Much better QBs than TB have had games that were just as bad.

One thing we do know is that TB is not the kind of QB who can bring our team back by himself if the running game isn't working and our defense isn't playing exceptionally. QBs trying to climb out of a hole tend to make mistakes unless they are seasoned and unflappable. Taylor is neither of those things, yet at least.

Reggie + Calvin was (may have been?) better over the course of a season than Taylor + whomever. But it doesn't seem the results are going to be much different either way over the course of a full season.

P.S.
I brought this up in another thread, but remember Andy Hall? There is evidence that either a) we make bad personnel decisions at QB or b) the same QB can do much better away from the current staff than with it.

At this point, any QB who could make any NFL roster has to be better than any QB we have started in the past six years.

Was Hall really smart to transfer or did Gailey just choose the wrong guy? Or would Hall have suffered the same fate as Suggs had he stayed and played for GT?
