I seriously don't understand why everyone is upset....

Hive is the exact opposite of buzzoff. It's funny how stingtalk really is the only "no holds barred" discussion around...Here's to Stingtalk

How True!!! I'm a life time lurker on both boards and stingtalk is the place for Tech fans to discuss good AND bad

So what can you actually talk about if you can't talk about in game coaching decisions ? I can understand locking threads that disparage him as a human.

To be somewhat fair, they're really just limiting the conversation to a couple of existing threads. With the number of posters on there and how the page is setup conversations can scroll off pretty quickly if you let people post the same topics over and over.

e.g. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=140&PU=1&APU=1#s=140&f=2938&t=1165716

TWIST THE KNIFE, BOR, IT MUST FEEL GOOD.

beej67,
glad someone's happy today

All hell is breaking loose at the hive.

Look at all those locked threads. Talking bad about Gailey = locked thread.

No, there's a lot of talk about Gailey being done on the Hive. They lock threads due to language, being too over the top about players or because they don't want 25 different threads saying the same thing. There's plenty of posts that talk bad about Gailey.

To some people on this board it is.

Please find one post where someone says 7-6 is good enough. People's expectations might not equal yours, but I believe (almost) everyone on this board wants to see the best from Tech every season.

Anybody that still supports Gailey...

No Kyle, people who support Gailey think he's the best way to do better than we've been doing. They may be wrong, but they aren't satisfied with 7 wins.

I'm not upset. It is what it is. This is how it has been and how it will be as long as Chan Gailey is our coach.

If they weren't satisfied with 7 wins then they would want him gone because that is pretty much all he has given us save for a 9-5 season last year where he lost all the important games.

The point is they think he can get us where we want to be quicker than starting over. Some people are very averse to change or they're afraid it can be worse. You're pretty young so don't know if you remember the truly bad times at Tech. Compared to those days, this is actually a pretty good stretch. With the uptick in recruiting it's not that much of a stretch to think he could get us to 9-10 a year consistently with a great year every 3 or so. The problem is that it might take 5 more years at this rate.

Very valid statement and almost sums up my feelings about the HC situation at GT. I'm not certain that CG can get us where we want to be quicker than starting over --but I am afraid of changing and bringing in someone new.

The worst of times for GT seemed to take place with a change at the HC position. BCarson, BCurry, BRoss, BLewis (where the bottom fell out his last season). GO'Leary and CGailey were able to avoid really bad seasons when they took over --so perhaps I should not fear change like I do. And it's true that the last 10 years have been a pretty good stretch over the 30 years prior. But I'm not settling on where we've been --in the 6th year I 'm ready to take the next step.

I'd like to see Chan succeed but like most of us I'm truly beginning to wonder if GT can take that next step under his watch --and there's a part of me that is starting to feel stronger than ever before that the program has peaked under Chan and is taking a step backwards. The last two losses have really put doubt in my mind --yet I look at the talent on the field and the talent coming in and I realize that the potential is there to succeed.

I'm on a freakin' see-saw about this whole situation huh?

I honestly haven't seen anyone "still supporting Gailey" around here since yesterday. I don't think anyone thinks that what happened yesterday is in any way acceptable - I certainly don't. But, nc and GT65 make valid points. I don't have the answers, but I know no one here strives for 7 wins.

GT is in a much stronger position than we were during the periods you list. Our facilities are light years ahead of where we were then, we are in an established power conference and we've had sustained success over a pretty long stretch now. Not the kind of success most of us hope for but nothing compared to what most of those coaches inherited.

There is always risk but we should be able to attract a quality coach. We are in a BCS conference, pay over 1M per year (not what it used to be i know), and are a state school in a huge talent producing state.

The fear I always have is that the eggheads on the hill make some sort of power grab that sets the football program back - similar to what they did when Gailey took over.

I find arguments that start with "All Gailey Supporters believe ______" to be just as hollow as the "All Democrats are Fags" or "All Republicans are Nazis" ones.

I think the universal belief among Gailey supporters are that he represents the school with class, he's a consistent winner, and he's the best alternative. At least that's been my stance in the past. Two less offensive line penalties would make us 5-1 and top ten instead of 3-3, and I'd probably still very heavily be a Gailey supporter. I still think Gailey's probably the best coach for our program, but I'm a realist, and I seriously doubt he makes it through this season, so it's not offensive to me at all to talk about replacements.

We should be happy with 8, feel lucky with 9+, and have a minimum 'acceptable' boundary of 7. We should expect to beat UGA 40% of the time.
