I think we keep Buster at least one more year

Did anyone else pick up the comment during the Vandy game that Buster scripts the first 8 plays every game? Explanation was he does it to figure out how the defense is reacting to set the offense for the rest of the game.

One glaring weakness this year was slow starts on offense. Does this explain it? 8 plays could produce 2 three and outs and a 3rd and long on the 3rd possession. Given the clock rules this is a significant number of potentially lost possessions.

Maybe he needs to rethink this.
Some coaches like Sarkisian script the first 16 plays. It’s pretty common.

Especially now that everyone knows.

It's time to start looking at using AI real-time to help call plays. It can see patterns in high-dimensional spaces with astonishing ease. The challenge is feeding it data in all those dimensions, like the height, weight, and playing history of everyone on the field. Get that picked up with smart sensors and feed the neural network along woth down/distance/score/clock, and it could put 2-3 recommended plays on a tablet for coaches to pick from.

Tech can do this without a 3rd party consultant and own the tech if we really want to.

Fridge did it as well. Nothing to say that they couldn't go off-script if they saw something blowing up or an unexpected opportunity with the other guy's defense.

I think it's just a way to ease in to the flow of the game instead of sending in plays right from the start.

What caught my ear was the announcer (who could be full of crap) said that Buster did it to see how the defense would react to certain plays and set the offense accordingly. Isn't that what film is for, especially late in the season? It's not like we are running the 3O so don't have film of teams defending against our type of offense.

Great idea, Geoff! Maybe we can call it the Catapult system. Wait a minute….

Is Faulkner’s son a P4 prospect?

And what % of OC across the country have their son follow them to their current employer / school? I suspect the # is very low, meaning I doubt his kid comes to GT, and if Faulkner has higher aspirations after his kid graduates HS, it won’t be tied to where his son might attend.

I bet the percentage is actually quite high amongst coaches that have kids 18-22 and are capable of playing

I dunno. Seems like everything in NCAA FB....from QB to the OC...are so fluid. The likelihood of both staying in 1 spot for 5 years is close to zero. If I'm either party, I wouldn't commit to a school or accept a job offer with the expectation of intention of being close to my kid or dad....Positions are only as good as the next phone call....someone needs a new head coach, a QB leaves and opens up a roster spot with a bag of money.

What good does it do you to know that your opponent has scripted their first 10-15 play calls? You have to call plays to get information on how the defense is playing certain looks or plays. They practice the scripted plays heavily so everyone is on the same page and they can call plays quickly.

By knowing you won't see the same thing twice in the first 2 series.
