Agree. I was there too—-stayed in Amelia Island and golfed that week. That was a fantastic day. Lots and lots of Tech fans. And there was 70,000+ fans in the stadium and it seemed 50,000 of them were Tech fans. Winning will put fannies in the seats. I wonder what our avg attendance was in 1999 and 2000. I think if we could start winning consistently instead of in spurts we could avg 50 - 55k. I wonder if we’ll ever get an administration that wants excellence on the athletic field.
A non power 5 is in the playoff this year.I was there as well…the image of Joe scoring the go-ahead TD is burned into my memory.
But college football as we knew it is over and done. It’s always been the rich get richer, but in the not so distant past schools like GT could put together competitive teams. Now that players can transfer any penalty and are being openly paid there’s going to be a much bigger gap between the haves and have nots. GT and other non-factories will never sniff another championship and probably not a playoff spot.
Also consider the home schedule. '98 was a non-UGAg/Clem year. Sellouts vs Top-10 UVA and F$U. The rest of the home schedule was sub-par - New Mexico St, Wake, Duke (rain), and BC (hotter than the sun).1999 stats are not available for some reason but we averaged 41,890 fans per game in 2000. It was 40,800 in 1998.
We weren’t exactly knocking it out the the park.
Then you are mis-remembering a little bit. Stimson played for O’Leary and Anoai played for Gailey.I was sticking with the game in question but if it's Christmas, then I'll take those three also. Thanks, Santa!
