Who is going to tend to the public relations and fan base building project that has been sitting on our doorstep and ignored for the last 5 years?

If this element is looked over, it's a very sad situation for Tech.

Personally I think the most important thing for the new AD, whoever it is, is to get the fan base re-energized, get some excitement back around Tech sports, and get us thinking positive again. Yeah, we need to right some things in the department and on the playing fields, but we have got to get this doom and gloom attitude changed. I think Curry could be the right man for that.

I also think he's the one guy who has the combination of realy understanding of Tech and the reputation to stand up to the Hill and make them understand how important Tech sports and our SAs are to the alumni. I don't think we need to lower academic requirements or anything...but we absolutely have to have the best support system in the country for our athletes. We need to trust our coaches to take chances on kids who deserve it, and give them the tools to be successful.

Not only is he a Tech man, but he has a great deal of coaching experience that will do nothing but benefit all of our coaches (not just football). His character will be highly contagious. As a side I believe that PH would end up wanting to coach at Tech once he got to meet and know BC.

I will be very glad. I don't appreciate ANYONE who sits around and campaigns for a job before its vacant. Its disrespectful and inappropriate.

Plus, there is quite a bit to running an athletic department in the modern era. There is not time to learn on the job and doing so will drive away our prized coaches.

Well, here is what I will say in public. 20 years of absence (some understandable) and a sudden reappearance? What a change of heart.

Also note, the increase of mentioning Tech in his articles and TV appearances. Furthermore, I know alumni who've been contacted by him. Hmmm....did anyone get a call back in November from Bobby Ross or G'OL or some other former coach?

Honestly, when has he not been campaigning in the past few months?

I played for BC back in the early eighties and I can tell you there are many alumni who keep up with BC on a constant basis. We still get together with him every couple of years and sometimes have done so at his home in NC. That is contact with a bunch of alumni on an ongoing basis for years. By the way the guy played at Tech and coached here for many years, he deserves to talk about the place every now and then. It seems to me that talking about Tech in the national media would be a good thing, but that is just me.

Agreed. I'm just noting the increased frequency of doting on his alma mater.

Well keep in mind the media has been asking him about his potential interest in the job not the other way around. Trust me, Bill Curry's character is nothing you need to worry about.

If he is selected I will have full faith in him and give my full support w/o a doubt. As I would for any of the candidates (save one) that I've heard rumored.

Curry has mentioned Tech in almost every interview or on air gig he's had for years. He's on Mike and Mike every week on ESPN Radio and it's very rare that Tech doesn't make in into the conversation. I don't know that he's the best candidate, but talking about Tech and how much he loves it is nothing new for Bill.

I am happy to hear that you will support a real Tech man dispite your negative experiences. You may want to be careful in the future when casting out false accusations regarding people that you do not know.

I don't think I have cast any false accuasations. I stated what he stated: hadn't been to a game in 20 years.

And several people have noted the great press he has given us this fall. And several people have been hearing more from Curry than usual. Since everyone speaks so highly of Curry I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as I would anyone. I don't think campaigning for a job is the end of the world or a DQ. Furthermore, even if you disagree with the conclusions I have drawn in these "accuasations" your words would be better spent on those who have said some rather unpleasant/false things in the past year about other folks at Tech.

But I am concerned that if we select someone other than him, b/c of this continued PR which may not be his fault, people aren't going to give a fair shake to the other folks.

If I had the jobs he has had over the last 20 years, I doubt I would have made many games either. It would have been kind of strange to have Alabama's or Kentucky's head coach at our ballgames - and certainly unacceptable to the fans of those two schools. I also don't see how he could attend our games when his job was a commentator for college football. Unless he was scheduled to do a Tech game, I don't see how he could have made it.

He is a Tech man. He is the best person for the job. He obviously loves Tech - something that our fan base has complained about with our last several head coaches and Dave Braine.

For those that are younger and do not know Curry---it appears he has campaigned for it. But BankerJacket and JJ---I'll do something on this message board that most won't do. I will acede the point based on your closer relationship to Bill Curry. If you say he has not campaigned and that he is not campaigning: I'll trust you. I am sorry that I misinterpreted his actions. I did not do so out of disrespect for Curry but only from logical conclusions that I and others had drawn. Those logical conclusions are not equivalent to your knowledge from relationships. Thanks for sharing of your relationship with Bill Curry.

But I strongly believe there are other very strong candidates. Let's not preclude them simply because of love for Bill Curry.

"Campaigning for a job" is a statement, and an accusation, thus you may want to think about how you phrase statements. Also logic will tell you that if one is coaching on Saturdays, and broadcasting on Saturdays that you cannot attend games on Saturdays.

Once again you continue to accuse Bill Curry of campaigning by talking about Tech. This is mis-aligned thinking. You need to be thankful that those in the media talk about Tech.

By the way I am curious why Todd Stansbury is your number one candidate?

I didn't name a number one candidate. Many others on this board also respect and like Stansbury.

however, Bill Curry did not broadcast every week. You have acctually proved my logic. Why did he make the reappearance at a Tech game so suddenly after 20 years of coaching and broadcasting? If broadcasting prevented attending other games, why was he able to attend this one? Surely it was not the first game after his coaching career that he could attend. Why risk appearing to campaign by publicly appearing and advertising his attendance and thus alienating some folks (its hard to believe he didn't know DB would be retiring in the foreseeable future)?

You have to admit--he did not broadcast every week and did not go to any games--but suddenly reappeared to much fanfare. Nonetheless, I am glad a good Tech man has started coming back to some games.

Hire him as AD and he'll be at all of the games.

You name your number one candidate as Todd Stansbury on your other thread. Why Todd Stansbury?

Additionally, Bill Curry's ESPN contract does have him broadcasting evey single week. Where did you come up with something different?

Also, he lives in NC on top of a mountain. Not necessarily the easiest drive to a Tech game, assuming he could attend which he cannot because of his ESPN contract.

An additional note. Since the requirement to attend Tech games is number one on your list of requirements to be a Tech AD, I can guarantee that Bill Curry has been to more Tech football games than all three of your top three candidates. I can name several candidates on your list that probably have not ever stepped foot on the Tech campus.

Let's have a lesson in reading.

I stated my top three candidates and I explicitly said "in no particular order". Do you understand? How do you interpret that I said Stansbury was #1 when I listed a top group of three "in no particular order". Please elucidate.

I never once mentioned attendance of games as a requirement. It only came up in regards to whether or not someone was campaigning for a job. Good attempt to confuse the issue.

Please read what I said. You can read very clearly what I said an AD would have to do and what they needed to have. It did not include what you previous game attendance. What I stated about attendance at games only came up in evaluating whether someone was campaigning for AD. It never came up in suitability for the job.

And yes, since the people listed on my post were Tech Alums/or had worked here, I'm pretty sure they all went to at least one football game and stepped on campus.
