and does not end up #1, then that will show you how biased the polls are.

Are you saying there's a possibility that the polls are flawed?

Someone should seriously look into this.

What if Alabama and Penn State win? Then it wouldn't be as biased as some things in the past. I HATE the polls with a capital "H," but this would not be the most biased thing that has ever occurred. An example would be shoving a 2 loss team in the NC last year when you had a 1 loss Kansas team sitting there whose only loss came to a #4 Missouri squad.

You propose instead to put a team into the NC which didn't even PLAY FOR, much less WIN, their conference championship?

What, like every Big 10 or Pac 10 team?

My intent wasn't to argue the merits of having a Championship Game - but to point out that if there is a Conf Championship game, to send a team to the NC who couldn't make the CG would be one of the most deeply flawed thought processes I could imagine.

See Nebraska vs Miami, 2001 - NU got slaughtered by eventual Big XII champs Colorado, then slaughtered by Miami.

That said, I don't think that the lack of a Conference Championship game is enough to disqualify teams from the NC.

Yes, but let's say LSU, Florida, or UGA were in our shoes this year and let's just say they won the rest of their games and still didn't make it to the Conf. Championship game. You know damn right that if there were only 1 loss teams left in the country, they would go to the National Championship.

We could debate this all day, but I know there is probably one point that everyone agrees on: The Polls Are Flawed.

Maybe we should call John Swofford, Mike Slive, and Jim Delaney and let them know about this. I'm sure they will take the necessary and appropriate action, as always.

Mighty fine suggestion, sir! These fellows are leaders of men. Men of integrity and men of decisive action. Men that understand the proper balance of academics and athletics. Men that can find real solutions that nobody has ever imagined, no not even the NAIA or the FCS divisions.

Indeed, I can think of no better group to solve this new Amercian crisis. If you may permit me making one suggestion that would greatly improve this brave new bureaucracy: Draw in the languid US Congress and our great President to appoint these gentlemen as a new cabinet level Federal Agency, The Department of Football Undergraduate Committee and Trustees (FUCT). Thereafter FUCT will properly oversee this new crisis that threatens all that we hold dear and hence forth guide the ship we know as College Football into the safe harbor amongst this storm.

Surely we must act swiftly, before this disaster occurs only days from now! Should OSU beat Texas not only will this be the coup de grace for the polls, but the entire country may well be thrown into a depression! The dust bowl days are only around the corner!

I implore you all, write your Representatives Now! Let there be FUCT!

I'm not an LSU or SEC fan but fact is LSU never lost in regulation. 2 overtime losses is not as bad as 1 regulation loss. Kansas schedule rank was below 100 I believe last year too.

And this is why the poll system sucks and we should have playoffs: people have their own opinions on things and have to worry about schedule ranks, overtime losses, home wins, home losses, etc. etc.

:laugher: Absolutely spectacular.

Amen Brother!

Drop the schedule back to 11 games and have a 8 or 16 team playoff system. Use the top 6 or 14 Bowls as playoff sites and keep the other 25 or so bowl games intact. Use the BCS system to determine the playoff teams. I know the 9th or 17th place team will bitch, but usually the top 5 or 6 teams are on a different level than the rest of the pack anyway.

Schedule:

Round of 16 - Saturday before Xmas (This round debatable)
Round of 8 - New year's Day
Semis - Jan 8
NC Game - Jan 15

With this schedule:
- No exams are missed.
- No school is missed except last 2 teams miss one week.
- Rose bowl is still a big game played on New years Day
- Playoff teams get 3-4 weeks rest before first round.
- Huge money from TV...March Madness on steroids.
- Last and most important.....We crown a true CHAMPION!!!!

if Penn State beat Ohio State and Texas loses, then they should be number one, no question

It's so simple. But for some reason college football hates change. Oh, I'm sorry, Division 1 college football.

It's not a department, its a society.

SoFUCT.

Very popular in December.

Drop the schedule back to 11 games? That will never happen. Schools are now dependent on that 12th game for financial reasons. All 120 teams have to drop a game just so the top 8 or 16 teams can have a playoff? Yeah right. I think we're more likely to take one of the byes out and have a 13 game regular season.

Schools are now dependent on that 12th game for financial reasons.

Schools are dependent only in the sense that heroin addicts are dependent on their fix.

Athletic directors are empire builders, and they expand their departments at every opportunity. Nobody needs a 12th game, but they all want one.

It's called "greed". More games, more TV money, higher salaries for the AD and coaches. No different than the housing crisis and our f****D up economy.
