If Rich Rodriguez gets fired this season

If Rodriguez was fired the program would be put on probabtion as well. CPJ isn't desperate for a job.
 
Plus they are disgruntled with RR offense, why bring in PJ to run similar style?

I was going to say this. A lot of the big name Michigan guys were upset that RRod was coming in anyway because of the radically different system than what Michigan ran for MANY years. Why would they fire one guy that the boosters didn't like, to hire another one that they probably wouldn't like.

Look for Arkansas to have a good year if Petrino thinks the Michigan job will become available.
 
Michigan will win 7 games this year and if they catch a break they could win eight(this is more a product of their really weak schedule than of really turning it around). It will be enough progress from that horrid 3-9 mark to buy him some more time. Big Blue will be back sooner than later. The option qb is a special breed as we all know and not all qbs can cut it. Sheridan has enough athleticism to run RR's offense, he just didnt adapt as well as the kids at GT did in their first year. The freshmen coming in, Forcier especially, have some promise as well. I think CPJ did a fantastic job with limiting his offensive playbook making it easier to transition into whereas RR tried to force feed too much of his offense onto his players and it supremely backfired. Thats the difference between having a good system and coaching.
 
Michigan should look to recruit someone "from within the family." All they needed was a slight change in motivation, not a whole freaking philosophical & fundamental overhaul. Hopefully RR will come out winning this year and it'll all be over. That seems a little unlikely to happen though.

FYI, Michigan's defense was the worst part of the team last year...Thanks defensive coordinator from Stanford (luckily he was fired).

Thanks for the post. I agree with your analysis of RR's square peg-round hole implementation of the offense.

I have two tickets to the U of M vs. Ohio State game this year. Hopefully it'll be a great game.

UM vs ND would be better to watch. RR vs Tenuta should be nothing but big plays one way or the other.
 
I think PJ would have had less success had he had Steven Threet as his QB. I also think RR would have had more success had he had Nesbitt, Dwyer, et al. Just saying.

That's a good point.

Think about it this way guys... Remember the Gardner-Webb game? We were down to our 3rd string quarterback and nearly lost. Michigan lost to the likes of Toledo with poor QB's...

I think RR will be a winner when his defense is back and his offense has more capable quarterbacks.

I think RR will follow a similar path as he did at WV. I think he went from 3 to 8 wins there.
 
It seems to me that there is more at work here than just a system and players fitting (or not) into that system. When players from within (past and present) are ratting out the program to the media, I think there are some serious internal issues that may undermine the expected progress and improvement of the program. May be premature to say but I believe this year is pivotal for RR.

Yea but if I remember correctly (which I often don't), wasn't the offense that RRod ran at WVU more of a spread passing attack than a true run based attack?

Threet wouldn't be too much of a hindrance in that scenario. I seem to recall White throwing a lot of little short slants and letting the playmakers make plays in the open spaces. White ran mostly when none of his reads were good, at least I seem to recall that.

I may be WAY off.

No, I think WVU ran about 70% of the time. The WVU scheme is much more run based than UF's. I do think the passing routes are a lot of underneath stuff though.

I have to agree with this. However, inherited players move on, and/or graduate, or buy into the new program and dissent lessens.

Curry's players hated Ross. Some quit, some graduated, and the rest finally bought into the program and Ross won an MNC.

That said, this does seem to be particularly virtuolic.
