If you were CJ, what would you do?

I don't mean transfer.
With only one more year of basically running windsprints, what can he do to further develop his skills for his job after college?

I don't have much doubt he will be selected in the first round, but there is a big dollar gap the further he moves down the line.
With a senior year like his last two games, he stands to lose a lot of dough.

I understand that he wants a GT degree, but I am sure he will be gone after next year. Unless he gets injured and needs to rehab, which no fan of football and athletics should ever like to see, the financial opportunity is just too great.

I hope he gets a lot of courses completed towards his degree in the next few semesters and has a wonderful junior year because we will miss him. After completing his play for GT, I want him to finish his degree and absolutely tear up the NFL.

i think hell stay, we got a pure passer in j.g after reggie ball graduates or attacked by the linch mob, either way works

One of the greatest talents in all of college football and we get the ball to him 4 times in 2 games we had to win.

If I were CJ, I would raise unholy hell to a so called O coach.

I'd stick it out at Tech one more year...not because I would expect much improvement, but because it's a year too early to go to the NFL, and transferring would cost me a year. So I'd just roll with the punches for one more year, then take the money.

One thing CJ needs to do is concentrate on running better routes. As good as he is he can get away with being a little sloppy. At the next level he needs to run crisper routes to help get the separation he needs. If I were him that would be my focus.

I would transfer to Grambling or some other I-AA school with a strong passing game so that I could display my skills next year prior to heading to the NFL.

Yes, except for the fact that the NCAA would make him sit out a year, wouldn't they? In that case, he might as well "sit it out" by playing for Chan Gailey.

That may be true. If that's the case, I wouldn't blame him for leaving.

Why do you guys think he needs to showcase anything? The pros know what his potential is he doesn't need to go anywhere unless he just wants some big numbers. Besides, if he was only all about putting up huge stats he would have gone somewhere else anyway. If a receiver wants to lead the nation in yards per game or something like that he needs to be in the WAC or something like that. CJ will stay, have another good year, and get drafted very high.

This topic has drifted away from what I originally asked. In the original post it was asked what other than transferring can CJ do to further develop his skills if next season is anything like the last two games.

An analogy would be a great hitter that hasn't seen enough live pitching for two years. What would he have to do so his skills don't deteriorate.

As I mentioned earlier, I think the one thing CJ needs to concentrate on is route running. All our WRs seem lazy on their routes, but he needs to make hit cuts crisp and learn to use his leverage better to get separation.

I don't think he needs to showcase anything - the pros don't care about college stats, they base everything on their combines and tryouts. I have no doubt CJ will go high in the draft no matter what he does next year, barring injury.

The question was "If you were CJ, what would you do?" I would not advise CJ to do that either, but I'm just answering honestly what I would do were I in his situation. I'm not saying it would be the wisest decision, either.

Cool, lets just not take advantage of arguably the best WR talent to ever play for Tech because the NFL already knows his value. NUT UP, FOR CHRIST SAKES. Want something better!! I assure you that CJ does. I don't think some of you realize just how much more Calvin is capable of, and Chan Gailey has been wasting him.

3rdGen,
I don't think many if any disagree with your statement, but after screaming and pleading for so long without any change whatsoever, it becomes tempting to just start reading the handwriting on the wall.

I think that is true. Transferring within Div. IA and sitting out a year makes no sense, and I do not think dropping to another division for 2006 would enhance his NFL stock either.

Although I have no personal insight into Calvin's and his family's views, I tend to believe that Calvin will be a Jacket in 2006. After that, as Steve Miller says, "Go on take the money and run." However, he should still do the academic work to be close to finishing his degree when he heads to the NFL. That way he can complete the degree over the NFL offseasons.

Quite possibly the dumbest post ever. What are you talking about?

The question posed was whether Calvin should transer. My point was he gains nothing by transferring, the pros know what he can do no matter his numbers in college. What part of that statement has anything to do with how we use him? or better yet, suggests we're using him to the utmost? Can you please take the time to read the whole damn thread before adding in? It might make your posts make a little more sense.

Actually, sport, one of the dumbest posts ever is as follows:

What kind of a moron are you? I've read some of your crap before, and this ranks on up there with some of the real gems. Do you HONESTLY think Calvin didn't come to Tech to put up some HUGE numbers??? Do you really think he doesn't wish he could touch the ball on every play (or more than twice a game)? Do you really think he doesn't look at collegiate recieving stats and get frustrated that his name isn't up A LOT higher in the national rankings? Where would you get such an absurd idea? This is D-1 College Football and he came to Tech to be a star. The man is a COMPETITOR. He's a world-class athlete and HE KNOWS IT. I'm sorry if you are one of those fellows who doesn't like to make any noise, draw attention to yourself, or hides behind your old lady's apron, but don't think the rest of us are that way. I assure you Calvin had bigger plans for himself in college than you do, and Georgia Tech was where he was going to make it happen, not some WAC school.

FYI-I don't give a #&^% what this thread or topic was specifically about. I saw an idiotic statement and called you on it.

The very idea that Calvin came in here knowing he would be underutilized.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pat.gif. You, my friend, are very naive.
