I'm starting to wonder if our Defense....

This team gang tackles very well. I think this is mostly because we don't have 75% of the defense in the backfield at all times and thus there are people up field to help with tackling.

It definitely seems like we have fewer missed tackles this year. Also, I don't feel as anxious when we're defending 3rd and long as in previous years. I don't have any statistical basis for this and, obviously, its early in the season, but I feel much better with the current defensive system and players.

No statistical basis is the truth. We're either last or 2nd to last in the ACC at 3rd down conv. % against. 43% of 3rd downs allowed by our defense if I'm not mistaken.

By the way - I know the stats I provided include all 3rd downs (short, mid, long) but it's still a number that needs to improve if we're going to make any noise in the conference (as many seem to think)

"Survey says?!" CLANG!!!!

Tenuta's D's waned over the years. The every play blitz just wasn't as novel and some peeple killed us (Matt Ryan/BC) by picking it up successfully. More of an overall effort now. And getting better.

I like this D much better.

You might want to familiarize yourself with the word hyperbole. While there, you can work on spelling, punctuation, and rational thought.

Or you could play in traffic. Either way, I feel like we're coming out ahead.

I like the gap control defense Wommack has instituted and it seems our SA's have bought into the package as well.

Our injured linebackers may disagree with you.

Tenuta did a great job with limited talent and depth. After Kenny Scott left, we had no field corner, and the pass defense suffered last year.

Wommack still has not played a good passing team. It is too early to make judgments on whether this system is better than Tenuta's.

I can argue that if Wommack had pressured Tyrod Taylor the way Tenuta would have, we would have beaten VT.

I think we've faced a whole lot of very, very bad offensive teams so far, and our view of our defense is skewed by that.

Our LBs this year are wretched. Duke won't expose them, but Clemson very well might.

beej, do you have me on ignore or something? That's like 3rd rehash of a post I made in the last couple of days.

?????????????

What good offense have we played?

Lets see the new guy hold Georgia down a few times like JT has.

Hold down UGAG?

2002 - 51
2003 - 34
2004 - 19
2005 - 14
2006 - 15
2007 - 31

Yeah, I guess he did hold them under 30 points 50% of the time.

Well, under 20 50% of the time. And in 2006, the defense gave up 1 touchdown.

If there's two possible opinions, and 30 people post, then it's highly likely some of those posts might share the same opinion.

Do you automatically assume that everyone on Stingtalk must disagree with you?

I'd like to hold my reservations until we play a good offense, but looking at our schedule, I'm not sure we really do play a good one until UGA. Maybe Clemson, if they remember to run the ball. Pray Bowden decides to start passing.

Yep, they did at that. Lest we forget, though, we gave up 6 TD's in '02, 3 in '03, and 4 in '07. In between, we were pretty good.

Its just nice to know that our offense and defensive units aren't fighting eachother in the locker room after games (see ACCCG 06').

Kenny Scott was awesome.

It was pretty specific. Go back to a couple days ago talking about Stafford and Reggie ball stats as well...

It's difficult to say. I would argue we faced better offensive competition last year through this point in the year.

I think we've faced a whole lot of very, very bad offensive teams so far, and our view of our defense is skewed by that.

By that rationale you were copying CB.

This week will be the first real test of our pass defense.

Drop it Kyle, or I'll start doing what most of the board already does - making sure not to agree with you on purpose, because of who you are, not what you're saying.

Clemson's problem isn't playcalling - it's youth on the Oline (replaced at least 4 from last year, maybe all 5). So, pray Clemson's OLine isn't rounding into shape by Oct 18. If they are, then Clemson should have a well rounded offense because they have the QB, RBs and WRs.
