is trying to change the annual Gt/Ugag game to the 1st game of the year starting in 2010.

I don't know if there is any truth to this, but, I would not be surprised at all. Since the hire of P.J. I thought that Ugag would push this idea, good for them and not as good for us. They would have all summer to prepare for P.J.'s offense...Just like them to try and get the advantage.

I think Drad ought to stay firm on this and tell them thanks but no thanks, " We will stay the course of history" and not change what has been a tradition for generations, the last weekend in November each year, the GT/Uga game...Drad should not budge an inch on this one !!
 
BS. The game should bee at the conclusion of the season. It's tradition. Bring back the Tennesse, Awbun, Georgy trifecta at the close instead.

Conversely, we would have the entire summer to get ready for them. Guaranteed to be a draw for College Gameday. Hype, Hype, and more Hype. It would also take some of the luster off of the Atlanta Sports Council's ACC/SEC opener in the dome.

Whatever gives Tech the best chance to beat those Red and Black bastards, I'm for.
 
One nice thing about it, is all their suspensions for criminal activity happen at the beginning of the year.
 
The stakes are infinitely higher in November than in August.

I'd rather play in a high-stakes game than in a low-stakes game regardless of how the odds shift. In football, you make your own luck.
 
It doesn't need to be moved. If you end with them it gives you the whole year to talk about it, because it is the freshest thing on everyone's mind. I also love looking forward to it all season long and knowing what both teams have going into it. I watch UGA games on Saturday's thinking about how Tech can exploit this and stop that guy. I would like to open with a "big time" game, but certainly not this one.
 
Funny that it's mentioned in a thread or two here as a "what do you think about this" question, and suddenly it's a rumor on the hive. Lame. I call shenanigans on this. Unless there's a source to this rumor, I won't even entertain this.

Why would either team want to move this game?
 
Actually AllenK I haven't seen it on the hive. Maybe I missed it, but I view and post there pretty regularly.
 
That would suck, I really hope it doesn't happen. Rivalry games are for the end of the year, not for the first game of the season. I want to see both teams at their best, not their rustiest, with everything on the line, not nothing on the line.

Good point --I can see it now, Saint Richt would be suspending players for the second game of the season if this were to happen.
 
I recall several threads over the summer here on StingTalk regarding this same discussion. I also recall seeing a lot more people in favor of it due to Richt's ability to progress his team through the season.
