In response to the win count prediction thread

my point is not saying anything bad about Paul Johnson or trying in any way to defend Gailey

... but..

Gailey had all the same problems when he came in and won 7 games in a tougher league (ACC has declined in last 2-3 years, IMO). we also had no QB, that is why he ended up starting a true freshman. we also had a transition to a new offense. the way Gailey handled it led to a limited playbook, but 7 wins.
why should we not expect the same of a guy that is making more $$ than the guy we fired that did it?

also, if you actually look at the numbers this would have been the first year that Gailey's record was not better to or equal to the year before. so we were actually improving in the results area.

i still dont hear a reason why we should not expect 7 wins from this guy
You're talking about Gailey's second year man, not his "transition" year. His first year he had a veteran team that was used to winning, and a new QB fresh off his RS year in Suggs. He also had Bill O'Brien as OC who had been the OC the year before with most of the players returning in his offense except for the QB. There was no new offense until BOB left. At least get your story straight.

are you saying that CG was "fortunate" to have BOB?

Does anyone even know where BOB is today? Is he still in coaching?

And wasn't BOB shoved down CG's throat by Braine? There was a belief that BOB was Fridge's protege.

About the upcoming win total....there is a chance that we might dip a year or two and recruiting is going to be different, IMO.

If we rebound strong and offense resembles UF, WV, or Ill then we should be ok. HOWEVER if we do dip AND THEN turn into MD it will be 5+ years b/f GT recovers.

There is a tremendous upside to PJ but there is also risk. We will be trying an offense that has not won championships in MANY years. I hope we don't have a dip and can build incrementally on what we already have.

Patriots hire Bill O'Brien as offensive assistant coachNew England Patriots
The New England Patriots have named Bill O'Brien as an offensive assistant coach on Head Coach Bill Belichick's staff. O'Brien served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Duke University for the last two seasons. He has spent the last 14 seasons as an assistant coach at the collegiate level, including four seasons as an offensive coordinator. He has coached in the Atlantic Coast Conference for the last 12 seasons, including tenures at Georgia Tech (1995-2002), Maryland (2003-04) and Duke (2005-06).

when you go from GT to MD to Dook I am not sure where that leaves you but he is at the best team in the NFL. I don't exactly know what his job is there.

Law, I would say at best he wouldl be offensive quality control. Which means 20 hour days doing the dirty work.

The best offense we had during the Gailey Era was the year that O'Brien was here.

The best offense we had during the Gailey Era was one that was coached by Ralph Freidgen two years earlier.
