Increases in Athletic Budget and need for increased donations and revenue

Would you like me to log into mine as well?
log into yours to see if you had a waiver for GTAA fees. I'm genuinely interested.

I had a waiver for health insurance, but that's because they added a mandatory fee after I started.

We can discuss offline if you'd like and yes I'm talking about a very specific case, but my fees were waived.

Nice! But I have to believe almost all of the grad students are paying the GTAA fee (otherwise Tech would drop it because it would be sheltered income to GTAA from GT).

I don't know much about the behind the scenes stuff (never really cared for the administrative stuff), but does GT actually pony up waived fees to the GTAA or whomever? I thought the GTAA would just have to suck it and get less.

Or we could extort money out of the parents of neighborhood kids who steal our amazon packages by threatening to press charges.
I just ordered a freaking lawnmower from Amazon this week that should be delivered today. Free Prime shipping. Life is incredible!!!

Amazon is the best. They screwed up an order (it didn't get to me in the time they quoted) so they refunded me the amount, gave me one month free prime subscription and still sent the package the next day.

let us know how your offline discussion goes

Yes. If a waiver is given, the entity giving the waiver has to pay the entity who should have received the funds.

For example, if the GTAA gives a scholarship to a football player, GTAA has to actually pay the equivalent of that scholarship to the University System of Georgia (USG receives tuition from all members in the USG then distributes back to the members. End result is GT gets back 30-40% of what GT students pay into the system, other like Fort Valley State receive >100% back, so when you pay tuition, you're actually funding someone else at another school).

So here's the rub, what if it's the USG giving the waiver?

I believe you, but where can I find numbers on this redistribution?

It's not published anywhere to my knowledge.

What happens is that GT doesn't need nearly the tuition and fees of other universities because of the extremely high level of research funding coming in. The dilemma is that GT doesn't need to lower fees because it's an attractive deal at the current going rate for college education. So instead that money comes in and the USG uses it elsewhere, typically to help fill funding deficits in universities that meet community needs (i.e. the 2 year technical schools).

I haven't looked at numbers recently, but the last time I checked GT distributed more tuition and fees to the USG than it received in the form of State funding. This means that a private GT would be more profitable than a public GT. My math at the time was that GT, if private, could cut tuition and fees in half and still break even.

Hey, great discussion gang. Really good stuff. Let's go ahead and increase those fees by $600 to cover the possibility of waivers.

are confusing to me. If it's not published anywhere, how did you check the numbers? Like others, I would be curious to know more about this from an accountable source.
