Insider says the 'star rankings' are a deliberate scam

Ron Zook at Florida is another good example of a great recruiter who was doomed by mediocre results on the playing field. He had a string of great recruiting classes (#2, #7, #11 on Rivals; #4, #8, #11 on Scout) but was fired after 8 win, 8 win, and a 7 win seasons.

At the end of the day, I don't think anyone cares who fields the most talented squad. If they aren't performing, the coach is gonna be fired.

I agree Randy Shannon is about to become the latest example of this if his team doesn't step up this year.

as far as on topic and coaches being fired for expectations--it all depends on the fanbase.

some amongst the fans are more knowledgeable than others about recruiting and possibly talent levels of squads. these people also are more likely to be the most outspoken.

but, you're also going to have the contingent that has NO idea about football recruiting and just casually know the team and it's ALL is going to boil down to W/L to them.

i'm pretty sure most of us on stingtalk are the former but most fanbases are going to be a majority of the latter.

Agreed, but your expectations are for a certain level of performance.

If you expect 9-10 wins per season and you get 6-8 wins, then you aren't going to give a pass to the coach because his recruiting level should only be able to have gotten 4-6 wins.

It might be a different story if two different people were responsible for recruiting and coaching. Then I would fire the recruiter and keep the coach.
