Interesting Notre Dame Tech Love

Nice read! I was at the 2007 ND GT game in South Bend. I took the train from DC. Lots of Irish fans talking up their team which was supposed to be pretty good that year.

We curb-stomped them 33-3. Jonathan Dwyer scored his first collegiate TD in that game.
You can take a train from DC to South Bend? How long did that take?

I actually don't remember but it was long. I just checked Amtrak and it looks like 15 hours non-stop. I can't recall how far between the train station and the campus but maybe a very short cab ride. I didn't bring anything so just got off the train, went to the game then hopped back on the train after the game. The train was awesome - a thousand times nicer than the trains that run between DC and NY (including Acela).

Two classy programs. It will be a miracle if either ever win a NC in the current landscape of “college” football——which for the factories is 1% college and 99% football.

Photo of the 2007 curb stomping is of their sucky QBs warning up. Lol.

funny, i don't see a schematic advantage on Charlie Weis' giant ass.

man, Jimmy Clausen.... It's hard to pick a more overhyped member of the Clausen QB clan, but I think Jimmy might be it.
For those who may not remember, the Clausen family had an impact on who played QB at Tech.

How 'bout the telling vignette that Kelly assigned a defensive analyst to do nothing but come up with ways of stopping the option. And then they didn't even bother practicing for us last year.

We're looking at going up for this year's game. Anybody else in?

To be fair, I’m pretty sure this man haunted a lot of people’s dreams while they laid in bed on Sunday morning.

thanks but you missed the point.

When Charlie got hired at ND, he loudly proclaimed they would have a "schematic advantage" over their opponents.
That first year, that Irish team was really good.
After that ... well ....

In sum total, yes.
But just out of the Clausen clan — Rick, Casey and Jimmy — hard to top Jimmy for being overhyped. And that's saying something with that trio.
Top Jimmy cooks. Top Jimmy misses open receivers. He's got the look. Top Jimmy, you're not the king.

Ok, the story goes, after AJ Suggs set the Vols completion record at LSU (in a loss, no less), Old Man Clausen pulls up in front of Coach Fulmer's office with a UHaul. Says if his boy ain't starting, they're going back to Cali, going back to Cali.
Fulmer says, I don't think so.

Clausen won that power struggle. Suggs transferred to Tech.

Should be on a Van Halen thread LOL.

“Let’s see if I can reference an obscure track on 1984 today…”
That’s me, earlier today. Mission accomplished.

PJ tells a great story about playing Notre Dame with Ron Powlus.
Powlus gets hurt. (To quote PJ, "we went and broke his (bleepin) collarbone" for the kid Beano Cook said would win two Heismans. Let's see ... derivative with respect to y ... multiply by pi ... carry the one ... yep ... still zero).
Which is too bad, because he’d been bad and the backup (Dick Vitale’s future son in law) lights up Navy

That right there is a beautiful human being. Always looked like he was yelling “WHERE’S MY PIE??!!!??!?!!!!” from the sidelines. He burned his diploma when they gave him the short end of the stick.
