Interesting Person present at Tech Practice today.

This would be awesome. I love Al Groh and the unintentional comedy he provides. And he worked under Parcells...that's legit.

Al Groh is a special consultant for the OB. He's helping Wommack scheme for the Hawkeyes.

Didn't LSU do something like this last year before the bowl that shall not be spoken? I thought they were looking to get rid of thier two crappy DCs, so they brought in a "special consultant" to help get ready for us? Am I just making this up?

LSU aside, this could turn out well for us. At the least, getting the D some extra coaching couldn't hurt.

Wow, I hope these rumors have legs. Wommack's spotty career doesn't bode well for him if he was fired. If we give him a soft landing spot like ST coach and DC for Groh, I would be absolutely ecstatic.

Then again, CPJ could just be trying to get his advice on how we practice defense, which I'm cool with too. With how bad we do, I have to wonder what we actually do with our defense those hours of prqactice.

Groh is not coming on our staff....he has always been friendly with the GT coaches apparently and this goes back to his close relationship with Gailey.

He is 65 years old guys....not even sure he will want to coach again.

Don't ****ing Tease me. If Al Groh was at practice, that would be awesome. I would love to see him as the DC at GT. We would totally crush people and win an NC next year with him running the defense.

THIS!

Maybe He's consulting with Wommack on defense, which is the next best thing to Groh actually becoming our DC.

Can we hire him just for the recruiting and then keep him far, far away from the field on game day? I have to think that there are much better defensive coaches available out there than Al Groh.

IMO, this defense does a lot of things well but does one thing really, really poorly: tackle. They had tons of penetration against Clemson . . . but they couldn't tackle anyone. Several times they would have Spiller trapped in the backfield, but he would break an arm tackle or otherwise escape and tear off a big gain. Same thing for the Clemson QB. Do you blame that on coaching . . . or talent . . . or practice?

I know we like to assign blame to players or coaches when we perceive a shortcoming, but couldn't it simply be the fact that the other team (i.e. Spiller) was pretty damn good?

Caleb King rushed for almost 200 yards against us. It wasn't just CJ Spiller.

Spiller is good, but he ran for 233 yards. His previous highest - 165 against FSU. That's 68 more yards than his previous best. He only had 4 games over 100 yards rushing all season. His best averages per carry
Wake-11.8
GT-11.7
FSU-7.5
Miami-5.8
That's a huge drop off. We did much worse than Coastal Carolina, MTSU

Caleb King against GT- 166 yards - 9.2 yards/carry
Next highest-77 Kentucky
71 Tenn. Tech

That's almost 100 yards better than his previous career best.

Maybe they are talented, but they sure look a lot mor talented when they play us.

Former Virginia Head Coach Al Groh was at practice today. Think there is a chance he may be the Defensive Cord next year?

Is this real?

Edit:

Wow.

Okay, the 'special consultant' theory isn't too bad, but I thought we'd have to officially ditch a coach to make room for a special consultant, given the NCAA's guidelines.

My UVa insider buddies tell me he's scouting for the NFL and will not return to coaching. Not gospel but more plausible.
