Is Dwyer a bit chunky?

JD has a big midsection, he always has. He is in good shape and is just a big boy. Hopefully he gets loose against FSU and you can see he still has the speed.

Thank you. I posted this two pages ago but no one listened. He hasn't had much opportunity to show his speed this year. And, he was the same size last year but he was busting 80-yarders every game, mostly because of less focus on the dive, so the perception was different.

If you had the cool person # of posts per page, you would have posted it zero pages ago.

Dwyer weighed the same last year. The difference between then and now is that defenses are keying on the Dive play and we've done a crap job trying to get him on the perimter.

Isn't dwyer averaging 6.2 ypc this year? I'll take that. So will most NFL team. He can't control how much he gets the rock, just what he does when he gets it.

Which puts him behind quite a few other backs who have had similar or more carries, Noel Devine for example. Look, I don't want to sound like I'm hating on Dwyer because I'm not. I think Dwyer will make a solid NFL back; but I also think he'll go higher in the draft if he ends a season averaging closer to 100 ypg than he currently is.

Noel Devine will get broken in half in the NFL. That size carries to the other side of the equation as well.

He is thick from his mid-thigh to his waist - no doubt. But I also have been noticing from last year's vid's to this years replayshow much larger that section of his looks.

I half agree and half disagree. If you don't think that your performance stats count as well as your physical stats your mistaken. I remember one of our DL dropping in the draft last year just based on accusations about his performance, and Moreno went high despite his 40 time, etc. It would be hard to draft him in the first round right now when his performance stats don't show him even among the top 25 backs in the country.

+1

It is a combination. If you show potential in the games with decent stats then they will also look at your physical skills to determine if your potential is greater.

But you can't just have incredible size and speed and not produce anything on the field if you want to go high. If you want to go REALLY high then you need to be an ideal physical specimen AND produce on the field.

no.

he has huge tree trunks for legs that he uses to carrie around defenders. sometimes 4 to 5 at a time. (i.e. duke 2008)

I think he's the first running back picked in the draft this year. He can't help it if every defense keys in on stopping him. The fact he's not bitching and moaning about it shows a lot of character too.

If he's slower than last year and chunkier as everybody says, then my question is where are the coaches in all of this? They can make the boy work out more if that's the case.

No good "Diesel" can operate without some girth.

So he's bigger. He's one bad mamma jamma!

If you guys listened to the radio show last week, PJ insinuated that he was unhappy with Dwyers endurance/toughness. When Wes made mention of him having a big day and being back, PJ said something like, yeah well that's what happens when he stays on the field. Suggesting that he's been coming off for a few too many breathers. To me being overweight would definitely impact this.

I read about him being slightly overweight in the spring. However, I figured it was rectified. He just seemed especially thick last night. My wife commented that he had a "Kardashian-booty". He is obviously a thrilling back. However, he is also under-performing. Thoughts?

Dwyer is not underperforming. Have you been watching what opposing defenses are doing?

I look forward to seeing what the coaching staff does to get him outside more frequently as the season goes on---because just watch what happens to the middle nearly every play.

He's not underperforming. He is 2nd I believe in the conference in rushing. This is also w/our opponents keying on him. He ain't superman and can plow through three defenders w/o anyone blocking.

If I am a D-coordinator, I do what I can to slow him down and force someone else to beat the D. Thankfully, for GT, we have a handful of someone elses that can make plays on offense.

Also note that Dwyer has 409 yards in '5' games. He sat out the entire second half against JSU and the second half against Miami.

Now if you equate that to 409 yards in '4' games due to the two missed halfs, he is averaging over 100 yards per game when he plays full games.

I'm not worried about Diesel at all. Just keep him healthy and in games and he will wear defenses down, just as he did against UNC and to a lesser extent MSU saturday.
