Is P.J. going to be the coach killer ?

I hate to say this, but I can see us having a 6-6 season very easily. Quarterback #1 and Quarterback #2 get injured, and you're left with someone like Quarterback #3. I won't say #1 and #2's names, for fear of jinx, but Quarterback #3 this season was Calvin Booker, who performed admirably against Gardner-Webb, but still. If he had been pressed into service against anyone else, we would have been in some trouble.

I think this year was simply the result of a new system being implemented. Booker wasn't recruited to play in this system; every quarterback we recruit from this point on will be. The #3 quarterback from next year on will be someone fit to run this offense.

Paul Johnson has already earned more wiggle room than Chan Gailey had, and that man had 6 years with one decent year minus anything of note that CPJ has already achieved.

If we ever have a 6-6 season under CPJ, I think everyone will probably see it coming in the preseason either from youth or injuries or whatever else. He doesn't seem like the sort of coach to have a team go down the tubes just out of nowhere.

He BEAT Ugay in his first year. That's already more than Gailey accomplished. End of story.

True about Ross's 5 year history, but as far as talent goes, we were very young and talented in '90. You might want to review our line-up in Orlando. Nebraska started EIGHT future NFL players on that D we hung 45 on.

Gotta love Josh, but Shawn Jones was at another level. Pull out your old Citrus Bowl and UVA tapes and you'll still likely get goose bumps!

While I agree with Gold that it seems crazy to take it that far after a single win, I think you have a point. Two years down the road a lot could happen. I'm afraid, for one thing, that we might face losing some of our game changers to the pros too. But at this point it's hard to imagine not beating the Dogs easily next year. Stafford, Moreno, or both will be gone. Meanwhile, our offense will reach heights we can't even imagine.

Richt is an excellent football coach and he has assembled a high quality staff. But if you lose big to your in state rival even a couple of times the hotheadedness and irrationality of the boosters at the factories cannot be overestimated. And that would play right into our hands. I think it's highly doubtful that they would find anyone better than Mark Richt. In the meantime, all the strife and general negativity over Athens way would be just fine for Georgia Tech.

We will never run him our of town after one or two 6-6 seasons because we stuck with Gailey for quite a while and our boosters aren't as paranoid as Auburn's and other schools who fired their coaches pretty early.

First, Gailey never went 6-6. In years one and two he went 7-6, but...

Second, FWIW:

When comparing coaches, I prefer the Pct. column.
JH had one 0.500 season, and never did worse than that. To his credit, **** ****** never did worse than 0.538, but he tended to stagnate, and had only the one breakthrough season (which ended with back to back to back loses in very close games, all of which would have been winable with better coaching).

Not that I have a point, in bringing that up.

I like to think that our AA is smarter than that of the average U. We'll forgive a <0.500 season here and there, if it's amongst other seasons where we were highly productive. In other words, we won't be pulling an Auburn.

We had NO depth in 1990 and 1991..If Shawn Jones went down it would have been a disaster...we have depth and talent now that we did not have back then..We were virtually injury free back then and was lucky we were...We had no depth back then and we do now...and i.m.ho. Josh will be better than Shawn when all is said and done...
