Is PJ's explosion about the refs on Youtube?

This is only the start of the ref's "contradictions." When Nesbitt was stopped and being pushed back by 5+ tarheels, apparently the refs wanted to be real damn sure forward progress was stopped. But they were sure as hell, apparently, that Bebe was stopped after being bumped by a UNC player. It even superceded the rule on the clock stopping on 1st downs, they were so damn sure.
It was absolutely a blown call. But all's well that ends well. Fortunately it didn't cost us the game this time. The call in Blacksburg last year significantly impacted our chances of winning that game.

I can't recall hearing louder or longer boos at a game than I did on Saturday at the end of the first half. I honestly thought CPJ was going to get ejected.

The best though was after the offsetting unsportsmanlike penalties in the 2nd half (involving Cord Howard). CPJ was so pissed at Cord that when Cord came to the sidelines, CPJ ran over (while yelling of course) and threw himself into Cord's chest.

I love this guy. Win or lose, he has fire....unlike CCG.

it made me laugh when early in the second half the refs added like 4 seconds to the game clock, stopping us from snapping the ball to do so and all you could hear was the thunderous BOOOOOS of the crowd as the refs walked around the field looking like bugs scared of being stepped on

i went back and watched the first half in detail last night, and in the first 10 minutes the refs missed several calls including a hold/tackle on Morgan that the announcers were literally laughing about how bad it was (the official was right there, supposed to be looking for a hold but made no call)

if you go back and look at the "catch" they called in front of our sideline on that long play that was eventually reversed, again the official is in PERFECT position, the only good angle at all. If he is not watching whether the ball is hitting the ground or not, WHAT THE HELL IS HE WATCHING?

ludicrous! the boos were well deserved by that crew

Coach Johnson was on the edge. When he gets up in the ref's face and is making punching motions right at his head I thought maybe he was pushing the envelope. But he survived and I think he saw it as a teachable moment for the team.

Even if he was inbounds the clock should have stopped for the chains. Would take a total idiot to miss that.

Still not as bad as 5 downs (I was only 5 years old then, but I have caught up on my history since joining GT) :ugh:

The worst part is that it happened later in the game to UNC. It was during the fourth quarter while UNC was attempting to drive down field. I'll double check and get back to y'all after I watch the replay.

They did that twice?

I just watched it on ESPN360... thats awesome...

its at the 1:24:25-ish mark, I believe... or just right before the 3rd quarter, if you have common sense...

Wow, AJC makes some strong statements against the referees:

HAha..

Referees…More “Special”?
These guys definitely arrived at Bobby Dodd Stadium riding on the proverbial short bus.
This was potentially one of the most miserable examples of ACC referee’ing I’ve ever seen. And that’s saying something!
Its one thing to forget to stop the clock when a ball carrier goes out of bounds.
Its another thing to forget to stop the clock when that same ball carrier got a first down on that same play.
Its a WHOLE ‘nother thing when you make both of those mistakes on one play late in the half as time is winding down in a close game.
The sheer incompetence of that rectal cranial inversion was topped only later in the game when the referees allowed horse collars and facemask penalties to go uncalled.
But then they took it to an entirely new level when they allowed three UNC defensive players to basically pick Josh Nesbitt up, carry him five yards, and piledrive him behind the line of scrimmage. Maybe they confused their whistles with their pacifiers? All I can figure is that they were too busy sucking on them to blow them, ending the play and protecting one of the players that they are supposed to be looking out for on the field!
Its one thing when incompetence impacts the outcome of a game. Its dangerous when incompetence threatens the safety of players.
Those guys should be ashamed of themselves.
Who were they?

  • Referee: Tom DeJoseph
  • Umpire: Mike Webster
  • Linesman: Michael Kelley
  • Line judge: Sterling Allen
  • Back judge: Delbert Bell
  • Field judge: David Meslow
  • Side judge: Jim Corpora
I hope we don’t see these guys referee another game at Tech for a very long time.
I hope both Paul Johnson and Dan Radakovich have placed calls to John Swofford up in his cushy ACC offices. Maybe he’ll take off his Carolina blue long enough to make a statement and do something now that the normally craptacular ACC officials have crossed the line into being dangerously incompetent.

I am willing to bet that they will be the crew reffing the (possibly) critical game against VT.

Re: BOOING

I can't recall hearing louder or longer boos at a game than I did on Saturday at the end of the first half.

If I recall correctly, the booing for Gailey's public service announcement was slightly louder. Although the booing for the refs did last longer.

I agree. It seems that 3 of these guys showup at every official's conduct controversy. Maybe it's time for a financial audit, because this doesn't pass the smell test.

Sad thing is if PJ had smacked the ref he'd be in jail. I hate that because the ref deserved it.
