Does anyone else think there's a possibility that Wilson is just the next ball? I mean Ball came in his freshman year and set the world on fire with few expectations. And we all know the story. For some reason I have a suspision that Wilson could be the same way. Heck, they're very similar QB's if you ask me.

Pretty sure Russell Wilson has already vastly exceeded Reggie's best game in terms of production.

Obviously you have no clue just how bad Reggie Ball was, even in his freshman year.

No. Wilson is for real and his season was so far above Reggie's freshman year that trying to equate them is silly. The only thing that will slow him down is injuries. Personally I think he'll get banged up enough due to his size that he may give up football before he graduates to focus on baseball. That's where his future lies IMO.

Similarities: Black, freshman starters who led the teams to some big wins and losses
Differences: Everything else

Wilson is a player. NFL size and a rocket attached to his shoulder. Reggie was a 5'10 D-back playing QB. No comparison really

Wilson is 5'11"...he will play pro baseball.

I have GREAT confidence that Russel Wilson will hang up his cleats with a career comp percent much better than 50... pretty sure reggie didnt and TD/INT ratio will probably be a great deal better too... it really angers me to see reggie so high up in our record books next to guys like Joe Ham and Shawn Jones just because he 'played' all 4 years.... its gonna take forever to purge his name from those lists

Seriously, why piss all over Ball for this? Is it really his fault that Chan couldn't find anyone else better to play QB? I know that Reggie's middle name while he played was ****ing, but the kid showed up, played with some heart, and did what he could.

Ball played his heart out. He couldn't coach himself.

You are exactly right. He was abysmal at times, but it was our ENTIRE PROGRAM that should be criticized for not recruiting four or five somebodies to play that position. Suggs,Ball,Bennett. How thin can you be and not get a qb signed? I suppose Chan would say Josh was the plan for the future. It can never be proven, unfortunately, but my hunch is that if Ball had had Coach Johnson he might have ended up All-ACC.

I think RB was undercoached and forced into the big time too early myself but he did some stuff like running out of the end zone, throwing out of bounds on fourth down, etc., that you just can't coach.

All in all there is almost always someone else higher up you can blame for mistakes. Lets blame Gailey who undercoached Ball, who was inconsistent in most every facet of the game except for starting. Then lets blame Dave Braineless who hired Gailey who undercoached Ball, who was inconsistent in most every facet of the game except for starting. Then lets blame O'Leary for leaving for Notre Dame which vacated the coaching job that Dave Braineless filled with Chan Gailey who undercoached Ball who was inconsistent in most every facet of the game except for starting. Then lets blame Homer Rice for retiring as AD which allowed Braine to get the job and, after O'Leary's exodus, hire Gailey who undercoached Ball who was inconsistent in most every facet of the game except starting. I swear I'll get to Obama eventually.:D

Blame the sport of football for ever coming around, without it we wouldn't have had any of this happen.

We did. We just never coached a QB up. This became terribly obvious seeing TB try to play the position. How our QB position could be that devoid after 6 years of recruiting and training is beyond me.

Wilson may be good but I don't remember NCST being appreciably better in Rivers' senior year than they were in his freshman year.

Taking the arc of a typical player who only does a little as a frosh, then develops over time into a heavy senior contributor and applying that level of improvement to someone who starts out contributing more doesn't always work.

It is somewhat sad that Reggie Ball became persona non grata around these parts. I think sometimes we take this too far on some of our players. They are still just kids trying to play hard and represent the school with the ability that they have. Sometimes they come up short on that ability.

I think accountability should be demanded from the paid staff of coaches that are professionals hired to bring in the right players and coach them to attain their potential.
