Is the ACC's relationship with ND worth it?

Every year they agree to play four teams from the ACC. That's nice, leads to some very prominent games on TV which is good for the conference and more or less seems to raise the profile of all parties involved.

However, they're probably going to make the playoff this year and I don't think the conference will see a dime of that money. Outside of eyeballs on the screen, are we (a member of the ACC) really getting anything good out of this?
 
People smarter than us can put a dollar figure on the exposure the ACC and its teams get for those mandatory games.

So, yes, it's a win-win relationship.
 
No. If they want to see benefits, they should get their precious asses into the conference all the way instead of just gracing us with their presence occasionally.

What 'we' get out of it is high profile game in Atlanta once every twenty years or so.

Swafford just isn't a great deal maker or conference head; but hey, at least he brought Louisville and Miami into the conference instead of UCF.

This year is working out golden for the Gold Domes of ND if they make the playoffs. The only way to get ND fully into a conference now would be for the P5 to collude and vow not to schedule them so ND ends up in the same no path the championship boat as UCF.
 
It's working out just fine. The only way this becomes a real detriment to the ACC (whom I don't really care about anyways) is if ND and Clemson are fighting for the last playoff spot.

In other sports, ND is also good and that works out for the league as well. A better question is if adding Louisville to the ACC was a good decision (it wasn't).
 
I like it. We don't just get to play them in Atlanta once in a while; we also get to go up to South Bend, which is a fantastic trip for anyone who likes college football.

Maybe we don't get a hell of a lot out of it, but we also don't really give up anything, either. Essentially we get to see a bunch of ACC OOC games against ND, and that's a good thing to me.
 
I imagine the long game is to get them into the ACC as a full member. I don't see them ever being left out of the playoff at 12-0, but I could definitely see it happening at 11-1, and at that point I think they'd be much more willing to have serious talks about going all in.
 
So once the ACC network gets up and running; will all ND vs. ACC games be on the ND network or will ND vs. ACC sometimes be on the ACC network?

My guess is it'd be negotiated so that NBC retains their home games.
 
I don't think ESPN would be starting the ACC network, if ND wasn't a partial member. However, I don't think the SEC or Big 10 would take ND as a partial member, which does show weakness on the part of the ACC.
 
Pretty sure the ACC got a "look in" rights fee bump in their ABC /ESPN contract when ND started playing ACC games. So, more TV money for the ACC.

I think the ND games that the ACC gets to televise are much too valuable to show on the new ACC network. Maybe one in the first year to help get carriage on the pay TV systems, after that back to ABC/ESPN.

Also, I bet ND basketball and non-revenue sports will help with the new network getting traction on cable systems up north and the midwest.

Good points. If they end up joining a conference at some point and it's not the ACC, then we'll definitely look really bad.

But the same thing would happen if ND was a full ACC member
