Is this the future of college football? I'm sure the SEC hopes it is

I hear you. I just don’t see it being any more overt, pronounced, or accepted today. It’s always been overt and accepted. Any NCAA investigator could see Herschel’s car or the “U”’s cars. Everyone knew about it then, it’s just that the masses of fans never got worked up about it like they are today. Why? I don’t know. I’ve been upset about it since I was a kid and knew why my team didn’t have a fair chance. The only thing that has really changed is more people now see it. It’s like the hookers are now on Main Street instead of a road a block over. The cops knew about the back road just like they know about Main St. The people knew about it on the back road but now that it’s on Main Street they seemed shocked. I find it funny. GT fans are upset we lost Gibbs. I’m not. I’m more upset about the dozens of other stud RB’s that would have come to GT over the past 40 years if it wasn’t for the blatant paying. I’m po’d that any high level QB that wanted to stay home and play QB for GT was convinced by money to go elsewhere (insert the dozens of stud QB’s the last 40 years from the Atlanta metro area). It’s easy to be upset about Gibbs because we saw him play for us. But what if we get a Trevor Lawrence if the NCAA didn’t let their system go to garbage 50 years ago. That’s what really makes me mad. It’s the what could have beens under a fair system.

I hear you and completely agree. It’s frustrating to say the least.

That’s why anything that leads to the death of the NCAA has a supporter in me. They have spoken out of both sides of their mouth for 50 years and the good guys who played by the “rules” got hosed. That’s the worst type of corrupt and evil organization I can imagine. At least the SEC is honest and open in what they believe and what they want. So, yes, it’s time that someone or something stands up to the NCAA. I wished for years it would be the good guys but guys like Swofford didn’t want to stop their personal gravy train so they put personal gain/prestige above what was right. I know the SEC isn’t acting out of “what is right” but out of dollar signs, but if that’s what it takes to end the NCAA then so be it. Sometimes you gotta get dirty to beat a dirty organization.

I'm afraid that you and I didn't get off to a good start a couple of days ago, and I will accept the blame for that. So I have to say that I agree 100% with your post here tonight.

No problem. I rarely look at the actual poster of a post because I can’t stand the game of “I don’t like this poster because of something he posted last week, etc”. I let each individual post stand on its own even if I disagreed with the same person in another thread or on same post. This is all fun entertainment for me. So while I stand by all my posts I also fully agree that someone can disagree with any post, mine or anyones. That’s why I laugh at those who put folks on ignore. It just doesn’t make sense to me. If I only wanted to hear one opinion I’d talk to a mirror all day. I come here for differing viewpoints and I don’t get upset in the least if an opinion differs from mine or if someone attacks my opinion. It’s all in fun and out of love for GT football.

Well, sadly, it's not always fun, but I wouldn't come here at all if I couldn't handle it.

And you don't think we've done the same thing? It's nothing new and I guarantee you if the funds were there and more readily available we would be in the same mix. We do it and we've done it in the past. The difference is that we can't compete any longer by the new guidelines that are allowing it to be legal.

That’s just sad then if we’ve been paying players and still are where we have been for decades. If we were doing it then why did we not pay enough to get Deshawn Watson or Cam or Trevor on campus? NIL has only been here 1 year. Why did we suck so bad prior to that? If the answer is because we cheated as poorly as we do everything else in the AA then I can accept that answer.

However I don’t agree we can’t compete in the “legal” era. It’s just all about the hustle. Has anyone in the AA canvassed every business around GT looking for NIL deals? Heck, Kevin Parada should have a deal with NCR right now due to the bombs he hits that way. The problem GT has is no one wants to do the heavy lifting. I can promise you that Kirby Smart has been canvassing the entire state raising money. Do we have anyone doing anything more than sending out emails to a disgruntled fanbase?

ATHENS — University of Georgia police are investigating an alleged act of financial fraud committed within the athletic association’s development office earlier this year.
The police department opened an investigation on Feb. 1 in response to a complaint filed by Ford Williams, UGA’s executive associate director for major gifts. Police suspect an unknown individual committed identity theft and fraud by using counterfeit info to solicit money from UGA donors and directing it into personal accounts. The amount of money involved was not included in the report.
“An unknown person unlawfully represented themselves as (Williams) by using their name and electronic signature to solicit unlawful donations via email,” police said in the initial report.
It is believed that the act was committed by someone employed in UGA’s development office, according to a person familiar with the situation.

It would be fun if the funds were directed to players but with the internal police investigating I don't expect anything to materialize.

I would love to see their football program get the death penalty. One can hope.
