Dwyer would have topped that list if he stayed for his senior season.
Tashard Choice would have been #1 had he played 4 seasons. I forgot what a stud he was.
Jerry Mays missed the last five games of his freshman season in ‘85, and still won ACC rookie of the year. He missed all of ‘87 with a knee injury but was able to come back in ‘88 and ‘89.
Here are each players yards per game average:
Jerry Mays- 39/3,699/94.8
Robert Lavette- 43/4,006/93.1
Tashard Choice- 38/3,365/88.6
Jonathan Dwyer- 38/3,226/84.9
Eddie Lee Ivery- 44/3,517/79.9
So Mays and Lavette top this list. If I had to choose between Dwyer and Choice possibly topping the list, I’d choose Dwyer over Choice simply because Choice’s stats don’t include his freshman season (OU), while Dwyer’s stats don’t include what would have been his senior season.
All that being said, Mays and Lavette were outstanding running backs -would have been intriguing to see both play in the 3O, and also see what their respective stats would have looked like in doing so.
