IT IS SETTLED!- Old Gold is Back

+1. I strongly agree.

(And if they needed a dark jersey to bring out on infrequent, special occasions they could use the home uniform from that same year--design and all--but with perhaps a darker navy color)

+1

If we go back to that gold though, all the other athletic teams need to use it to.

+1. This is the gold we need to be wearing.

I don't necessarily disagree as I really don't like the Vegas gold as is our current uni, BUT which gold do you like better in the Bell SI cover? They are not the same.

FWIW, some random thoughts...

I liked last year's unis better than the Vegas gold color.

I understand that CPJ did not like the color choice or even possibly the design as a whole (inside contact at the GTAA, who knows if true?).

Throwbacks vs. UVA were awesome.

Many people don't realize how hard (or choose to ignore how hard) it is to match metallic helmets (which we really have not had in an while) with the pants (particularly the fabric we had last year). That doesn't stop them from griping.

Many Tech fans don't realize the effect the lighting, or live versus TV has on the contrast. That doesn't stop them from griping.

Many Tech fans don't realize that MANY other teams (gold (see earlier ND pics), white (Texas), blue, red, you name it) have the slight contrast that we have had, but apparently they choose to ignore it and gripe anyway.

That said, the posts on bbuzzoff that depict UCLA blow these theories out of the water. Whomever manufactures UCLAs helmets and pants (Adidas?) "gets it". They appear to match well in those pics. Both are metallic looking (helmets and pants).

DISCLAIMER(s): I am a fan of the Jackets even if they wear pink. I still like the uni discussions because the changing of THE gold every year (it seems) drives my anal rententive mentality CRAZY. I do not like the Vegas gold compared to the other apparent options because it is not unique. I really wish that someone in the GTAA would "get it" and freakin settle on one unique "Old Gold" (see the Saints and 49ers, yes they are almost copper) and freakin' run with it. That said, we are Vegas this year apparently, BUT let's roll! GO JACKETS! Let's now turn our attention to the Intro song...

We could select almost any shade of Gold jersey if we were to go with a White hat.

If we stick with Gold - White - Gold, then last years pants look like crud.

If we stick with the Gold hat, then this years Gold (vegas?) will look much better on the pants.

Personally, I would rather see solid color pants of any color than to have that small pipe striping on them.

Thanks, that's exactly what I'm talking about!

Can anyone think of any reason why the GTAA couldn't go back to this shade of gold? It's neither (a) the color that some call "urine yellow", nor is it (b) the color that others call "baby-poop".

I agree--it should be the standard across the board. Then Russell can proceed to make fan apparel the same color.

Personally, I liked the uni's last year for two main reasons. To me it represented a new era for GT football while paying homage to past traditions since it was the most similar color to what we used during the Dodd years IMHO. Secondly, the color was uniquely GT as no other team donned a color quite like it.

The only uniform I disliked was the one we wore in the Chicken Bowl. We looked more like LSU than LSU did, at least in plumage.

To me, the color matters, but it's not high on the priority list as far as what I get out of GT football. As the clock was winding down in athens last year, I don't recall a single thought passing through my pea sized brain about the shade of gold on our uniforms.

I think they are close enough to each other...it might be a different story if the gold color on the pants was on the jersey. The white jersey in between tends to minimize the slight color difference between the pants and helmet, IMO. In other words, if the team wears white all the time, home and away, the small difference shouldn't matter too much.

As you pointed out....

part of the reason is the change in FABRIC that they make the stuff out of these days. Russell told the AA that they could no longer make that color, IRRC, and they had to chose between the two that are the mustardy and the washed-out

i personally love the mustardy look. screw the pansies, im not going to a fashion show - i want everyone to know who the hell i am cheering for and we look different from Vandy, Notre Dame, Wake, etc etc etc... no one else dare wear our Old Mustardy Gold... Go Jackets!

btw, notice my avatar?

That's odd...why not, I wonder? It seems like if they made it before, they could make it again...or at least something very close to it.

I agree. Vegas gold looks too much like everyone else. Give me last year's 'mustardy gold' or the 1990 metallic gold.

I want to go on record, perhaps even start a petition, outlawing the use of the blue jersey. Not because it's blue and that color is neither white nor gold. Not because I think they look bad. But because my team, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, seem to suck every single time they put on that color. Total number of points scored by Tech while wearing that color in the past three seasons = 9. Nine ****ing points. That jersey is cursed I tell you. Cursed. That jersey is the distilled essense of Patrick Nix. It needs to be burned and removed from record.

And if Russell can't get the color right, then why the hell are we with them? Because of their amazing arena football uniform templates? The exciting lineup of fan apparel not offered? Buzz has managed to get the color right, even with all the mold growing on him. I'm sure somehow this is all Dave Braine's fault. Or Obama's.

Doh! I think you answered my question. :D

Still, one would think that they could still come up with something very similar even with the different fabric.

We won the NC in 1990 with Blue top jerseys and for all the idiot Tech fans who don't know this, our school colors are White, Gold, AND Navy Blue. Navy Blue has been a color of GT's forever. It wasn't something that one day in the late 80's someone decided to make it a school color.

Athletics Board Affirms Georgia Tech's Colors

Don Chapman chaired a committee charged with resolving confusion about Tech's official colors.

Georgia Tech athletics has studied the history books in an effort to resolve confusion about the official colors of Tech athletics. Navy blue is being officially added to the traditional white and gold for uniforms. Black is out.

White and gold are Georgia Tech's primary colors, but historical research shows that blue has enjoyed official status from Techs beginnings.

Georgia Tech athletic teams, cheerleaders and the band will wear uniforms bearing white, old gold and navy blue.

Dave Braine, director of Athletics, is responsible for selecting the exact colors, and uniforms will have to be approved by the athletics director.

A Georgia Tech Athletic Association committee, charged by President Wayne Clough to resolve confusion about Techs colors, went to the original source — the graduating class of 1892 — while conducting its research.

Techs first graduating class selected the colors white, gold and blue as its class colors.
A board committee chaired by Don L. Chapman recommended that the forgotten color blue be added as a complementary color to Techs uniforms based on the committees study and meetings with the coaches of a range of sports.
The Georgia Tech Athletic Association board of trustees unanimously approved the color selection of white, old gold and navy blue. The Athletic Association board includes alumni, students, faculty and the administration, but no one from the Athletic Association is a voting member of the board, including the athletics director.

I really like all the uniforms we have used, but I just think it looks bush league to keep changing.
