It's official

1) Double post
2) I don't consider it official until there is a press conference or an announcement by GT and/or CFA

Why the delay in naming our opponent?

I would prefer South Carolina but wouldn't mind setting the record straight with LSU either (unfinished business from 2000).

I do worry somewhat about USC's defense, tho. I don't think now is any time to get cocky (no pun intended - well actually it was intended :-).

Getting plastered in our bowl game would be a serious downer. We absolutely must win our bowl game to keep the positive momentum heading into recruiting and next season.

If we lose, we will vindicate all the naysayers who say that the only reason our offense works is because our opponents have insufficient time to prepare for it. If we run roughshod over the respectable D of the Gamecocks when they had a month to get ready then we have effectively closed the door on the only remaining criticism of our offense.

For one thing, they can have our bowl press conference today, then go to Red Stick or Columbia for the SEC team's bowl conference tomorrow or later. Get media on two separate days.

I still want LSU for the reasons previously mentioned of knocking off what's more of a premier SEC name. Even if South Carolina is the better team (Educate me, I have no idea) it'd still be a big deal to cut loose on the defending national champions and Les Miles.

What the hell.. how can LSU go to a bowl game with a sub-.500 record in-conference?

Capital One has a say. Looks like if they take UGA we play LSU if they take Ole Miss we play South Carolina.

Plus remember, the SEC is very good at making their conference look good. They look for matchups they can win and if they can't, will throw a bone out there. USC is throwing us a bone, LSU is a matchup they don't want to lose but are worried about.

But it would be funny for UGA to drop down to the 5th level bowl game.

I would be worried about LSU.

They seem to finally have a new QB after an entire season without one. And the rest of the team is as talented as usual.

They could easily have a reversal of fortune against anyone with a breakout game by the freshman QB.

That's great for their offense, but their problem is whether they could actually manage to keep up with ours. I'd bet against it.

I agree with this. Their offense hasn't been bad all year, it is LSU's defense. Very undisciplined, more so than UGA, if this game is to be, then I expect LSU to do well early on with the option, but later to over pursue etc..

I think this would be a really, really fun match up.
