Injured Georgia Tech cornerback Jahi Word-Daniels, who had planned to return for his final game, was unable to practice Friday, and coach Paul Johnson said he would be surprised if the senior plays.

“He tweaked [his hamstring] a little bit in practice last week, and he doesn’t feel like he can go this week,” Johnson said.

Otherwise, Tech is fairly healthy for the Chick-fil-A Bowl. Safety Dominique Reese and linebacker Sedric Griffin, who injured their knees on Nov. 20 against Miami, are expected to start.
:(

Johnson on the bowl:

“We’ve got a couple of goals for this game,” he said. “No. 1 is to win the game. No. 2 is to have fun. And No. 1 trumps everything else.

Can someone with more knowledge than me enlighten me a little on this? Doesn't Jahi have the same injury Josh had? And Josh only took a month or so to recover... Do hamstrings heal vastly differently for different players?

Also, we have been hearing #32 might be playing in the next game for well over a month now... How is it that we have been so wrong and uncertain? Again, does it have something to do with how a hamstring injury heal?

Thanks in advance...

Hamstrings can vary from person to person but also on the severity of the pull. He reinjured it last week. Until then, he was to play as he was practicing with the first team.

Being a former track guy, I knew a sprinter that took one year to fully recover from a hamstring pull. Of course, his hamstrings were the size of me...but for anyone that is your largest muscle, and for your skill athletes it is vital that it be 100%. Heck...at first I thought, as did others, that Jahi tore it.

AT Barnes is unlikely to play either...still has a cast on the broken foot.

Sedric Griffin is not 100% but will play.

Josh also isn't sprinting full bore on every down. This is some bad news for Jahi, I was looking forward to seeing him get on the field one last time. Good luck to him in the College Retirement League, or whatever else he chooses to do.
