Jake Skole

24 years old, playing in A+ with a .680 OPS. I'm surprised he hasn't already been dropped.

He's probably making ~$5,000 / year in A+ ball. Going to GT on a full scholarship might be a step up in terms of lifestyle (free living, free food, free degree, 18 year old girls, etc.)

I was wondering what happened to him. And yeah, with a .230 BA and 34 HR in seven years the baseball window may be closing.

Who the hell is Jake Skole and why should we care?

He committed to us to play AB like 6 years ago. He was a 1st round MLb draft pick and never made it to campus. He got like a $1.7 million signing bonus IIRC.

If I recall I think he was actually recruited to play safety. He was one of the better recruits in that class.

I might have the position wrong, but I don't think he was that highly recruited in that class.

A quick look of Rivals has him listed as a 5.5 3* recruit. We only had 2 recruits that year ranked lower than that.

Scout has him as the #94 ranked Safety in that class.

Peers I was rong!

He wouldn't be allowed to play since he accepted money, right? I don't believe it matters that it's for a different sport.

He hasn't played football professionally and never enrolled so his clock hasn't started and amateur status is safe! Don't think he could play baseball though

Jake would have been competing for the starting job as a freshman that year. This came directly from the coaching staff. He decided to take the 1.6M from the Rangers. They paid in four equal installments due to the fear that he would come back to Tech before the four were over. He would be a beast a safety now but I'm not sure he would even consider coming back.
On another note, his brother Matt is in the Washington Nationals farm system at AAA. He started for Tech as a freshman and played three years.

Russell Wilson also played MiLB before coming back to NC St.
