Was skimming the internet for some Jaybo highlights to check him out, when I came across this opposing teams highlight video against him and Flowery Branch. You may have to skip through the Green team's offense, and realize it is the other teams video, but he doesn't impress me. His team got blown out 49-7. Not that fast, accurate, quick, or gamebreaking. Seems like there is a reason he was going to Middle Tenn.

So you're basing all this on one game? That's fair.

I really never got a good assessment of watching game tape on a player, in one game, using the opposing teams highlight video to judge.

everyone has a bad game

imagine if I showed you CJ vs clemson last year...the only game....what would you think?

or TC for the first 3 quarters against BC

it happens!

I would have to look at his body of work to judge...which I haven't so I am not going to say one way or the other he is bad.

I will reserve judgement for the practice field this fall.

Your right, but you also can't judge a player just based on the good plays he made either. I think he'll work out alright. Heres my next question, If Nesbitt doesn't work out the grades, does Jaybo become the starter?

One game does not tell you anything. What if you based Eli Mannings career off his 14 for 52 performance yesterday?

First of all..he is quick...darn quick. He runs a 4.22 short shuttle which is on-line with Joe Hamilton. His forty time is also right in line with Lil Joe. He also keeps his head upfield when he is scrambling which allows him to spot receivers that have broken to an open spot. Now...I am certainly not compariing him to Lil Joe from a football perspective...just trying to give you an idead of his quicks.

Obviously Chan through enough of his football smarts and arm to offer him a full ride...and PJ decided to keep the offer on the table.

The fact is we need a lot of dual-threat QB's and we need them fast as we only have Nesbitt on the QB roster now and even he has not run a lot of option in his life. Jaybo is a great local "get" for us....and look for us to find 1 or 2 more to go with him.

first I think nesbitt will be fine academically
second if he isn't ...he will be by the time fall rolls around
lastly, if and a purely speculative probably not even possible if he somehow isn't eligible by fall, then PJ alters his offense and uses TB or Booker IMO.

Does Jaybo need some coaching and some strength training?...absolutely. However, he has a lot of charecteristics that are going to allow him to do well in this type of offense. He winds up a little when he throws and is not the most accurate passer, (actually, he probably throws better on the run than he does in the pocket) but he has a strong arm, possesses great ball-handling skills, shows good fakes, and expertly reads the end on zone option reads. He is also a very decisive and sudden decision maker which is exactly what you need in this type of offense. He needs to add a little size as a runner and I think that if he works on his foot work, it will improve his accuracy while throwing from the pocket, but Jaybo definitely has the tools and is worth the effort in my opinion.

I was invited to see a 2 star (Rivals) kid who wants to go to SMU play a couple of months ago in person in Oklahoma City. His father (who played at FSU invited me to sit with him at a game). The kid's videos on Rivals make him look very good. He participated in a Nike camp.

In person it was clear the kid just isn't Div I good. And I'm a layman. He has had no offers and lists his shools of choice as ND, OK St, Missou, Kansas, SMU, Baylor, Northern Arizona.

My point is that it's really tough to tell on film what a kid is like.

Agreed, but our coaching staff evaluated him in person and felt that he deserved a scholarship. Even Gailey, who did not run the option, was on the verge of offering Jaybo. That's good enough for me.

IF, Jaybo has a sub 4.5 forty, YES, he is indeed faster than LiL Joe and Reggie Ball and Shawn Jones.
Keep in mind that we are going to see PJ pick up a slew of Option QB's over the coming year's (not to mention the small and fast Rb's he will recruit) and not everyone of them will end up being the permanent starter at either RB or QB. We just don't know on Jaybo yet, let it all play out over the next couple of years.

I love the prospect of signing 2 to 3 of these type kids every year at QB and 2 to 3 a year at RB. This will give us speed and more speed for special teams and other critical positions like DB's Wr's exct. (if QB or RB doesn't work out for the individual player)

IMHO we will see the speed go to a different level on our roster over the next few years. Going from a fast squad to a very fast squad. The Jaybo Shaw's and Embry Peoples come to mind.

We will benefit from all these Shaw type athletes in our program as time goes on. AND, you need depth at QB in the option attack as a QB takes a beating in option football.

Shaw apparently runs a sub 4.5. If that is accurate, then he's faster than Joe Hamilton. Contrary to popular myth, Joe Hamilton never ran a sub 4.5.

At the Scout combine this summer he ran exactly a 4.60 forty. Of course, that means he probably could rip off a 4.50 somtimes...and maybe 4.70 on others. His short shuttle of 4.22 that day was strong. Vertical leap....not a strong point for him at 28.5".

The biggest thing, imho, he will need to work on his putting some thickness on him to get past the 164 he weighed in at that day. He will want to take those licks at 185 if possible while keeping his quick feet.

One thing to remember is that we're going to run a somewhat different system than most other Div. 1A teams out there. It sounds like Jaybo's strengths are doing things on the run as opposed to traditional pocket passing. It also seems like PJ made a good assessment of his football smarts, considering the quick reads needed by option QBs.

It looks like he's fast and throws well enough on the run to be a threat. It seems like we did pretty good, even though other BCS programs with pro-style offenses didn't offer him.

If Jaybo were 6'3" and closer to 200 lbs, he would have every factory in the country calling.

We've got to have other guys on this team who were option QBs in high school don't we?

his throwing is actually pretty strong and he sees the field well...makes good decisions.

he ran the option out of the shotgun though...PJ typically runs it from under center.

Keep in mind...Chan Gailey offered Jaybe a week or so before the UGA game. So...both Chan and PJ thought highly enough of him.

We need more numbers at this position anyway to get this new system going...regardless of what everyone's opinion of one prospect is.

Look for Dominique Reese (A 2nd string cb out of Alabama) to get a strong look at QB this spring.

I went through the entire GT roster looking for potential QB's and slotbacks.

Dominique Reese was the best QB prospect I saw.

Correy Earls seems like a possibility at SB. GT is an unusually tall team at WR and DB, which is not ideal for a transition to the flexbone.
