I know that a bunch of you are/were pissed about this loss, as was I. I was irrational about some things at the moment, but now that I have sobered up, I want to look forward to the future of this team. It is obvious that there will be some question marks about Nesbitt following this performance in the game yesterday. Here is a quote from CPJ: "I really don't know what else you do. At this level, you'd like to think you could get the center to quarterback exchange. The one on the goal line, he just fumbled the ball. That was two, I can't think of any others. And the interception at the end was a poor decision. We actually had a chance there at the end."

So what should CPJ do? Jaybo is (2-0) against teams with a cumulative record of 7-8. Nesbitt is (3-2) against teams with a cumulative record of 23-15. Jaybo seems like he can make better reads, but Nesbitt is more elusive (which sometimes gives us 15 yard sacks because he doesn't understand the concept of throwing the ball away). Nesbitt turns the ball over when it counts, Jaybo has turned the ball over as well, but not when it counts yet.

The question I am asking is: do we put Nesbitt on a short leash, do we stick with Nesbitt no matter what, or do we put in Jaybo next game and see how it goes?

If you ever want Nesbitt to have the confidence to play QB again in this system I don't think you can pull him out after one loss.

A good point. But playing devil's advocate, someone can say the same about Jaybo. Jaybo did what he had to do when he played, but Nesbitt is still our starter. I don't have much of an opinion on this one because there are good arguments on either side.

ISN'T THAT HOW REGGIE WAS TREATED?

I prefer the Steve Spurrier method. If you screw it up you ride the pine until your backup screws it up worse than you. Competition makes them both better.

This is DIV 1 FOOTBALL

Josh.

He's a better fit for this offense, he just needs the reps. Everyone knew this was going to be an up and down season, anyway.

Josh, as well. However, I am not the coach -- and will let CPJ make the call, and trust he knows what he is doing -- after all, aren't we paying him to make this call? If our offensive line was incredible, then maybe I would give Jaybo a chance -- but our offensive line is too inconsistent for Jaybo to perform at a level needed, I think. Josh has the talent to perform, even when our line breaks down.

I was disappointed not to see Jaybo some yesterday. I agree that you have to sit players after bad plays so they will feel accountability but more importantly take the pressure off of them for a while so they can regroup.

Josh was off yesterday, period.

As a guy who played quarterback in high school, you never want your coach to pull you after a bad play or bad game. Quarterbacks are head cases and that can severely affect confidence. You want your coach to show you that they still believe in you when bad things happen. If they just take you out, that makes you feel like they do not believe and ultimately can cause your demise. I have been in both situations. I have had bad games and the coach stuck with me. Then, I have had bad games and the coach pulled me. Sticking with Nesbitt is the best way to go. We are in for the long haul. Show some confidence and things will get better....just give it time.

Jaybo, he makes better reads and better throws. I don't care if his arm is not as strong this offense runs smoother with him at QB. Tell me I am wrong all you want, but thats my opinion.

Josh gives us the best chance to win. Period. Jaybo may have more experience in the offense, but Josh's athletic ability make him BY FAR the better quarterback. He can make at least 3/4 of the reads Jaybo can, possibly more, so along with his natural gifts, he is the better choice. I'm FAR more concerned with how our defense got absolutely GASHED than our quarterback play. If Jaybo plays against f$u, we lose IMO.

Jaybo doesn't make better throws IMO. He benefited against Duke because his receiver physically dominated the DBs, but several of those throws were hail mary's.

Josh still, because lots of players played badly yesterday and it's still only one loss, and he single-handedly won us the BC game and kept us in the VT game. But I wouldn't mind seeing Jaybo some in the next game. It's no longer a clear cut case to me.

I'm not saying bench Josh as starter, I'd just like to see Jaybo get a few series each game and who knows, if he's more effective let him play more.

I don't blame Josh for the loss, it was a team effort. Both sides of the ball played terrible it does not all fall on the QB, but I still think Jaybo is the better QB for this offense. He deserves some playing time IMO.

Josh, let's not forget (and I am not trying to make up excuses) that Josh is coming off of a month sit out. This is almost like starting over for Josh. We knew he was rusty last week against CU, and UVA has bigger linemen and arguably more talented linemen. Josh will learn.

I agree with PJ, those fumbles were just unacceptable.

Ditto. For our game against Duke, I have to give more credit to Bebe for his catches than to Jaybo who threw them. Bebe is listed as 6'3. The corner that was left to defend him on 1-on-1 most of the time was 5'11.

Some differences that I see between Josh and Jaybo is speed, Josh is obviously quicker with a faster 40 number. Second thing is decision making - Jaybo follows the playbook through and through. It doesn't matter if the walls of the play are crumbling down, I still haven't seen him make plays by himself yet and as a true freshman I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Josh on the other hand, deviates from the play sometimes and this type of playmaking ability has saved us A LOT on 3rd down situations (hell, he had one against UVA). But on the other hand, the downside of such ability is the possibility of being sacked for 15 yards like he was at the end of the game yesterday.

Like someone else said though, those fumbles by Josh are absolutely unacceptable. And maybe even we can blame one of those fumbles partly to the center. Regardless, those fumbles definitely got us the loss. CPJ knows that and hopefully Josh knows that.

Another crucial and tough opponent coming up. I hope they don't waste any time dwelling on this and prepare for FSU.

The fumbles are the only reason we are even having this discussion. Not that there's not nothing else wrong with his game, but if he holds on to the ball then we're 8-0 right now, ranked Top 10, and people are talking(however unreasonably) about Nesbitt for Heisman.

Excellent point.

Sure, we could be 8-0 right now. Likewise, we could also be 4-4 had Josh not played against BC and Clemson. All those 3rd-down and long situations Josh scrambled out of - I don't see that kind of ability with Jaybo (yet). Josh leads his team on the field while Jaybo still needs to be led; that's not a negative thing on Jaybo, it's expected.

Both of these guys are young... a true sophomore vs. a true freshman. It's not like Jaybo hasn't ever fumbled the ball before. In the end, I trust CPJ to make the right decisions based on how these two guys practice during the week and put the guy out there that he thinks gives us the best chance to win.
