Josh, let's not forget (and I am not trying to make up excuses) that Josh is coming off of a month sit out. This is almost like starting over for Josh. We knew he was rusty last week against CU, and UVA has bigger linemen and arguably more talented linemen. Josh will learn.

I agree with PJ, those fumbles were just unacceptable.

And I think Josh is a smart enough to know that a ride on the bench is not inappropriate after a disappointing performance. The game is about winning, not ego-building.

Lots of traffic in this thread.

Jaybo is the steadier. Josh, bless his heart, played a Reggie Ball kind of game. The turnovers absolutely killed us.

Either/or. It's up to CPJ. I'll be happy with his call. The OL has a ton to answer for.

No question Jaybo has a better handle of the offensive he reads well and makes good decisions and better pitches. Josh is the better athlete and stronger arm. The offensive line is playing sub-par for the coaches which tells me we should stick with Josh as he is more illusive. He will make bad decisions but remember we are in the very first year under CPJ and his system. Just be glad we have two qb's that can run the offensive this year. I've been watching this offense for many years and it still looks like the plays are developing too slow. Some of that is the lack of explosion from the o-line and Dwyer needs a little extra urgency hitting the hole but mainly it is the qb's decision making process and ATTACKING QUICKLY. Not sure if Josh makes decisions in a timely manner. However, better times are ahead because CPJ will fix those issues.

The primary job of the QB is to move the offense and take care of the football. Josh had 3 TO's in our 9 possessions on Saturday. Tech scored on half of the possessions when we kept the football.

I think we stick with Josh for now, but CPJ has to be willing to make a change is he doesn't improve. For the most part, Josh, while facing stronger defenses, has not taken care of the football or moved the offense this year. Jaybo, in just two games against decent opponents, has done both.

FWIW, I also think UVA has shown in recent weeks that they likely have the best defense in the ACC. Their last three conference games they have allowed 0 to MD, 10 to UNC (in regulation), and 17 to GT. And they have not allowed a TD after the 1st quarter in any of these games.

I'm not saying bench Josh as starter, I'd just like to see Jaybo get a few series each game and who knows, if he's more effective let him play more.

Ditto. I mean we have a qb who is still learning the system and will be great one day but we also have a qb that knows the system now and will run it in a few years for us.

Why not give JS a couple drives a game. JN might be able to notice something he's not doing right. I know JN will learn more from experience but I just don't see how it could have hurt our stagnant offense to put JS in.

We knew Nesbitt had butter fingers coming into the season...he showed this last year.

At some point though he does have to learn to have laser focus in the red zone in tight games....you simply cannot fumble there...much less drop the ball without being touched.

He has actually had several of these this year...he simply has to focus more.

As far as his running backwards and throwing off his back foot for the last INT with Earls open...that is the first I have seen of that from him...would hope that is fixable.

The other he just has to make up his mind that he is not going to allow. We will see.

I am not giving up on him. Nor would I say Jaybo should not see a few snaps. fwiw...Jaybo does get ot the edge faster on the option. which makes it harder to defend.

Nesbitt is much better than jaybo. Let's be honest with our offense line we have to have a qb that can make plays on his own. Jaybo can't make the plays Nesbitt makes when the play breaks down.

I wanted to go back and look at that play again but erased the game before I calmed down. My recollection is that he really rushed that throw and may have even telegraphed it with his dropback - the same dropback he used with the long pass to Thomas. He never swiveled his head (on either play) and a good db made him pay.

I might take some heat for this next comment but on TV, Nesbitt occasionally reminded me of Hamilton and I wasn't even thinking of Li'l Joe. I still maintain that Nesbit is about where Joe was in 1997. I don't think Josh will end up where Joe did but it is my opinion that he has a TON of undeveloped potential and I think CPJ will turn him into the one-man wrecking crew I thought he could be when I sat slack-jawed watching footage of him destroying defenses in high school.

Jaybo might be able to run the option better at this moment but that is not 100% of the question. Two things Nesbitt can do better than Jaybo right now are break tackles/ get first downs with his feet and throw rockets downfield. I really liked Jaybo against MSU but his arm strength will never catch up to Josh.

Where Josh can make a lot of improvement is by meshing the roles of option quarterback and drop-back passer in his head. Right now, in my opinion, he comes out of the huddle thinking: OK on this play I'm a dropback passer or OK I'm an option QB on this play. He demeanor is different and I think UVa eventually sniffed it out. I have to check some more but I think there is a chance his checkoffs are different on called pass plays - the way he looks over the defense is not the same because he knows he doesn't have to make a hot read so he's not gathering the same information.

Anyway, right or wrong - CPJ knows exactly what is going on and exactly what to do about it. I'm a lot more comfortable knowing that this staff actually thinks of ways to make our quarterback better rather than crossing their fingers and hoping for the best.

I agree...Nesbitt gives me confidence back there with his size, speed, and strength.

However, every great thing that takes place on a 12 play, 80 yard drive is absolutely meaningless if you drop the ball and give it to the other team at the end. All of the good is completely erased.

In our offense, you get very few possessions...we eat a lot of clock. The drops (we are not even being hit in most cases) eat up an entire possession...cost us the VT and UVA games.

I am not giving up on him...I just hope he can fix his mental errors.

Last night on the ESPN NFL analysts show with Tom Jackson, Chris Berman, etc they made a good point. Tom Jackson, and the other analysts agreed, that a starting QB must average no more than one turnover per game that is attributed to them.

Where's the option for a dual-QB threat? Heck, play them both in the backfield or put one at slot (remember Bennett standing in the slot position some?). With as much running around as the QB has to do with this porous line, we'll need some fresh legs back there.

That said, I pick Nesbitt over Jaybo until proven wrong.
