Jaybo with broken collarbone

Let's hope so. I'm pretty sure some of the teams will be dirtier this year though.

That is what has been in my mind... and yeah... it's going to be tough to keep our key players out of the bear trap this season.

Easy, by sitting in the Practice Tower and delegating that duty to his underlings

If you think Bowden isn't culpable for the behavior of his players you're nutty. He knows exactly what kind of program he runs, and directly or indirectly, that crap is his doing.

When you suspend kids for a game against St. Mary's School for the Blind and Deaf when they steal clothes, then you're directly responsible for the outlandish behavior on your team. St. Bobby has made a living off of throwing convicts on the field, and the only thing that matters is winning.

Optimistically speaking, Josh could stay healthy all season and Tevin could become a greater backup than Jaybo.

(knock on wood)

Exactly right. All this talk about Sims or Luallen presupposes that Washington can't play or becomes hurt. Relax. Plan One is Nesbitt plays and plays exceedingly well. Plan Two is now Tevin Washington. Plan 3 is a long, long way off. And Shaw might be back by Halloween.

FYI...that's usually how a lot of HeadCoaching is done ... especially with coaches with decades of tenure

So you're saying that he had an actual troll on his staff? Why did Mrs. Bowden agree to have sex with it? Does Terry know who his real father is?

Chatted a bit with Alexi online today. He seems to think that Sims has a looong way to go to be a legit 3rd string candidate. Like, worse than Booker long way to go.

So cross your fingers and hope we don't go 3 deep until Jaybo gets back.

This seems to be the consensus. If we need a true freshman to start at QB this year, we're in a heap of trouble. It makes you appreciate what Jaybo did for us last year.

I'd find this hard to believe by season opener. Today maybe, but there's still a couple weeks of practice left.

In all fairness, I think Book could've done a lot better than we saw against GW last year; line play was horrid that day, compounding the problem of a down day by the QB. We saw better glimpses from him in a few games the previous year in spot duty.

But yes, like most teams in college football, if we get down to the third guy we're in trouble.

Latest from the ajc.

CPJ seems to indicate that Jaybo won't be taking a redshirt...and possibly back by game 3?

“If [Washington] plays, he plays. If he doesn’t play in the first couple games, the other guy [Shaw] will be back by the third game,” said Johnson, perhaps a little optimistic about the timing of Shaw’s recovery. “You don’t worry about it that much. You just play.”

I was about to comment on that... Are they on bad terms or something?

Not sure. But like I said earlier, Shaw's a good kid but his playing days are numbered.

Yes, he held his own against Duke and MSU last year. But they were Duke and MSU.

Although he appeared to be more familiar and somewhat better at identifying and reading the defenses thrown at him, he didn't wow me with his decision making. In the two games we needed him most UNC and FSU, he looked awful in UNC which we lost and damn near lost the game for us with a costly fumble and idiotic INT against FSU.

I'm not so sure that CPJ is all that high on Shaw. I think he's decided that although he may be a decent option QB, he's going to forever be a backup and last year he absolutely needed him...this year we've got more options to throw out there if something goes bad. The other QB's are far and away better QB's from what I've seen and heard (spring game and word of mouth of former players that are dialed in with the team)

What special access do you have to the thoughts of Paul Johnson? Is the answer "absolutely none"? That's what I thought. The only times you have access to his thoughts are when he chooses to directly share them through the media. With that in mind, let's consider what he actually said about Shaw:
If you would pay attention to all the words Coach Johnson said instead of focusing on his use of the phrase "other guy," you would notice that the point he is making is that as soon as Jaybo is healthy enough to play, he will be the clear #2 behind Nesbitt. The reporter (you know, the guy that was actually there and who got to directly interact with the Coach about the topic) characterized him as "optimistic" that Shaw would return quickly. So please exlain to me, how do you take from this that what's really going on is that Coach Johnson is not "all that high on Shaw" and secretly prefers Washington and the other backups? If this was the case, couldn't Coach Johnson simply decide that Washington was QB#2 regardless of Shaw's injury? What you said makes no sense at all. For all the times you begin your posts by belittling someone else, it is time for you to realize the stupidity of your own comment.

You're reading way too much into a simple comment by PJ.

Well, FWIW (and that's not much), I agree with the assertion that Shaw will not overtake Washington once he gets game experience. He is a more elusive and dangerous runner than JS, and tends to make better use of the guys around him.

IMO, there are two areas in which JS is superior to TW: First, game experience, and second, ball handling. Game experience will take care of itself soon enough. TW drops or bobbles a significant amount of snaps, and that is a problem. Does he have smallish hands? Is the switching from center to center bothering him? Is he nervous? What is the deal? If this can be remedied, then we have ourselves a serious 2nd string QB. I think wiht the number of reps he will get having to be ready at any moment that these things will resolve.

Shaw is a tough, tough, young man, and I'm proud of what he did last year, and hope he can return to the rotation this fall. His presence would give us 2 very good options (no pun intended) behind Josh. In short, we need him, but we're not sunk without him at this point.
