Sorry if this has been covered - been away for a bit.

Joe Hamilton: Seems like he's been interested in coaching at Tech - does anyone know if he and CPJ have talked? Seems like he'd be a perfect addition to this staff.

Butch Brooks: Noticed he's stepping down after the bowl. Hasn't he had a huge behind-the-scenes role in our recent recruiting success? Not as a recruiter but as a relationship builder/opener of doors with HS coaches? Will his departure set us back at all or will we continue to benefit from his well-laid foundation?

Joe Hamilton- If he gets into coaching, it will likely be as a graduate assistant coach somewhere first...not as a full-time position coach.

Butch Brooks- At one time he did this when he was in charge of high school relations...and did a great job. However, our Director of Player Personnel's do this now....(Geoff Collins...now Liam Klein). Butch is in charge of Football Operations which coordinates all team and player movement, travel, equipment, logistics, etc...all the behind the scenes stuff.

Thank you, sir - and Top 'O the mornin to ya!

I guess another way to word my thoughts would be to say that I will be something less than a happy camper if Joe gets a coaching job somewhere other than Georgia Tech.

Chan dropped the ball on this one. He moved him to football operations and took him away from contact with HS coaches. I'm going to miss Butch, he's a great friend to me and the program.

I agree - everytime I met Butch when I was working at Tech, he came off as a guy that really cared about the program.

respectfully disagree on this one....

Actually it was a smart move as Butch did the job of building high school relations back with the state of Georgia...but we needed someone who get put in the thankless recruiting hours which Butch could no longer do...or really wanted to do...as a Director of Player Personnel. The problem was we did not have the right person in that role until Geoff Collins....and now Liam Klein.

High School Relations between Chan & staff with the state of Georgia was the best it has been at GT in a long time (hence the DJ Donleys from Charlton County...the kids from Hawkinsville, etc.)...and I expect that it will continue with Paul Johnson.

Hopefully he can be a grad asst for us...our staff is full now. I have no clue if he is interested in being a GA...or has even talked to us. The GA role is a good way to find out if someone has good coaching ability...particularly since that is different than playing ability.

It would be nice to see Lil Joe around the Flats.

As far as Hamilton goes.... I felt that Chan failed to recognize that Joe Hamilton could really have helped Reggie Ball. Ball threw right out of his shoulder with no arm, whatsoever.

Joe was similar in stature, but could really get the ball over the LOS for short gains because he extended his arm to its fullest, right over his head. Truly beautiful technique.

This was one of the first indications that Chan didn't get it. It being the game of college football. It being bringing legends in to inspire when you need it most.

That's interesting because the last time I spoke with Butch about his role the first thing that came out of his mouth was how he missed the relationships with the HS coaches, Butch could do a lot more than you think. Don't underestimate him.

Well, just curious as to how he would have done that? I don't believe we hire coaches who don't have a college degree, and Joe just got his. You clearly can't be a GA unless you're in grad school for example. Also I do remember discussions about Joe hanging around unofficially and trying to talk with Reggie, but RB reportedly blew him off.

I never heard the 'Reggie blew him off' bit. Source?

Joe did not finish his degree until recently, I'm told. Now would be the time to bug PJ about hiring him though. Anybody know PJ's email address? Say what you will about Chan, he always answered my emails in a friendly and professional manner.

Reggie was too busy studying his math. We all know how well that paid off.

I agree with RM. Butch being removed set us back instate the first 4 years gailey was here. The guys hiveredtech refers too...were only after 4-5 years of having to re-crack the relationship barrier that was put up when Chan came on board. Look at Chan's first 4 classes....they were sad and we lost many players to other teams due to the lack of relationship

but we had no problem landing the pupellos, blackwoods, bramans, and MANY out of state players that were due to chan's affiliations...

Actually, Butch remained as Dir of HS Relations thru Chan's first two classes ('02, '03)....he took over FB Ops after signing day '03.

How's about we just stay hell out of things we know little about and let the coach do the job we hired him for? I'm sure he has better things to do right now than deal with crap like this. And I'm also sure he knows who the hell Joe Hamilton is, and probably where he is, too.

A day by day eye gouging reality. Chan recognized that Reggie was the man but he did nothing productive to make Reggie a better QB. Buddy Geis? Complete waste of space. Nice guy and all but TOTAL WASTE OF SPACE AND TIME!! We needed the option and the play action to compliment RB's skill set and Chan consistently asserted that we weren't capable of memorizing that playbook or executing it. One of CCG's biggest failures, imo. My eyeballs still itch when I think about what could've been. Just teach Reggie Ball the option and the play action offense. Unbelievably, exasperatingly incompetent on Gailey's part. Chan must have bought into the Braine lie that he'd bee at Tech forever. Well guess what? Time ran out.

Oh, please, please, tell us what could have been. We're begging you. You're obviously so much smarter than the last WHOLE ****ING COACHING STAFF!

Of course, that former HC just banked a $4,000,000 Christmas bonus. How was yours? And he doesn't even have to put up with your incessant whining any longer. Lucky him.

I never meant to indicate that he did not miss it.

I do believe he is happy to be retiring and spending more time in his newly acquired home (within the past 1-2 years) in the mountains.

Actually he's moving back to Valdosta where he's had a house for a couple of years now. He needed 6 months to get his 10 years with the state and I don't think he's going to get it unless they gave him timed served. I will speak with him after he gets back from Boise.

believe me...that was due to braine being an idiot more than chan being smart!!!! AD's should always have coach buyout figures a % of the contract...not the total!!!! :wow::wow:
