Joe Jones to VT

I take it your implication is momma thought ATL wasn't safe?

It was mainly the distance..and a big city thing.

VT was Joe's third choice.

Of course, when he interviews publicly he will surely spin it differently. However, the in-home was spent doing a lot of talking to the mom about how it was a quick plane flight, they would take care of him in Atlanta, the campus is a in the city but you do not even realize it....its a small town within a big city....blah blah blah.

it is crystal clear that Clough has no freaking desire to have a top notch athletic program. My wife graduated from Clemson and I am within an inch of dropping my football and basketball season tickets and shifting our family athletic money to orange since it is CLEAR that we haven't a clue or desire to have a successful athletic program.

If I recall correctly, Daryl Smith made honor roll at Tech and had an SAT down in like the 700s. But I could totally just be making **** up. My brain doesn't work like it used to.

Well, we hired CPJ didn't we? I am still pumped by having him here and can't wait to see what he can accomplish.;)

Macdaddy2 before you switch to clemson just take in some of these facts. 13 to 3 last year. 4 national championships to 1. We own clemson were what up by 22 or 23 in the series. In bball we have been to tournament a lot more times than them .

Frankly I don't want anyone on my side who would even remotely waiver in favor of Clemson even for a moment. Not to mention the fact that if you're considering it you're probably not an alumnus. If you were you'd realized Wayne Clough has done more for GT than nearly any other man in history and has increased the value of every alumni degree many times over. Not to mention the fact he is one of the most respected men in higher education and engineering. I'm glad he's more about education than sports, thats what GT exists for, the rest is just entertainment.

GT is my school....I dont care if we lose every game in every sport...they would be my school. Why...because we are a school first and that cannot be taken away. As frustrated as I get I try to keep that in perspective and I am proud to have the GT diploma on the wall.

That being said...I do not see how you can say things are going backward?

- We have been to 11 straight bowl games in football..national champions in 1990 (when was Clemsons in the past 20 years?)
- We are just a couple years removed from a Final Four in basketball (when was Clemsons?) Things are even turning around this year.
- We are consistantly a top ranked baseball program and feature MLB superstars like Jason Varitek, Nomar Garciaparra, etc. (soon to be Matt Wieters)
- Men's tennis team has been to the NCAA Championship tourney 8 of the past 9 years
- Womens tennis team straight off a national championship
- Womens basketball team trending up and on the verge of being ranked (currently 28th)
- Womens volleyball a top program that spends much of its time ranked
- Womens softball team a top program that is trending up and ranked much of the time in recent years. 54-16 last year and ranked 17th.

....and our student-athletes are representing the school almost flawlessly off the field....unlike many of our southeastern college competitors.

Why are y'all responding to macdaddy? clearly his wife wears the pants and she says it's time to support the tiggers. iptay here we come.

Virtually all of the athletes are well below the student body. We're talking about taking a 920 SAT and denying an 870. I know it's more than just SAT but for arguments sake assume this represents all qualifications.

100 points on the mininum is about all that seperates us from the rest of the ACC and SEC. Our current 900+ guys aren't graduating at any higher rate than O'Leary and Ross's sub 900 guys.

My point is that we don't need new majors to start taking the 870 guys when we are already taking 920 guys. All we need is the will to do so.

The standards are what they are because the administration set them at this level. It's not some sort of free market where prices stabililze at a rational point based on all of the underlying fundamentals.

There are other, COMPLETELY arbitrary requirements that reduces our pool such as 2 years of foreign language - which I think we can all agree is absolutely no indicator of a persons chance of competing at GT.

Fact of the matter is if they can't manage to achieve more than an 870 SAT, then I really don't want them anyway even if they run a 4.2 forty.

Wow. This post reeks of a stinking vagina. Congrats on the pussiest post of the year award.

We just fired a coach and decided to pay him the full buyout of 4 million. We hire a new coach at a 70%raise from the last coach. Yet we have no desire to have a top notch program?

Wow. The stupidity I read never ceases to amaze me.

Mostly the cart before the horse here.

Obviously this youngster had the grades or, hopefully, we would not have been recruiting him.

The bowl string we have is not impressing anyone, especially the multi star rated players. And especially when we vomit up the field against lesser teams that have mulitple suspensions.

Yes, the education is the first priority, but these type players have to be shown that we can beat our rival, kick the crap out of good teams and not have it be a fluke (or have it followed up with historic losses to duke, etc.).

PJ will do that, and the recruiting will improve, but we have to do more than talk about it.

I have an idea, BOR, since you do not know me, SHUT THE HELL UP! I promise i have donated more to GT than you have ever dreamed of. FridgeMover, I respect you, but stay out of my bizness. i have donated, on a ratio basis, $125 dollars to GT for every $1 to CU. However, the Tigers get it and we obviously do not. I would think that those with significant influence and who are in the know, and I assume that a former player and NFl alum would be one of these, could help influence the hill. We need relaxed academic restrictions to make sure that we can admit the appropriate 4 and 5 star recruits. The program has officially become a JOKE (look at the majority of our bowl bids during the streak) with the hire of a coach with a gimmick offense that is usually reserved for high schools with slow white players.

This post has degenerated into one of the dumbest I've seen in quite a while. A kid who liked Tech, the coaches and ATL decided to attend VT because of his mother's influence. From that we've got people changing allegiances to Clemson (if you even consider that go ahead, you're too much of a wuss to be a Tech fan), people claiming Clough doesn't want a top program and people wondering what changes we need to make to the school to get athletes. ONE PLAYER DECIDED TO GO TO A TOP 20 PROGRAM INSTEAD OF TECH! It's not the end of the world....will you people please get a life? (and a clue?)

I don't want to get into this fight, but I think it is more than one player.

Did you say something, because I thought I heard a queef?

I can see the frustration on our fball program and losing a recruit - but one that I had never heard of before 3 wks ago?We lost to a top20 school IN HIS STATE so what is the surprise?
Now losing Hershel to uga(which I remember) was cause for concern/angst.
