ANYBODY can choose not to drink. There are Judges, Lawyers, Doctors, and etc. who are alcoholics who choose not to drink.
Even if lil joe is not an alcoholic he could stop drinking get some treatment and attend meetings and he could get his life back.
I think if my job depended on it I could quit drinking forever.
Most people who drink also drive at least occasionally. Statistically it may take 50x's driving drunk to get 1 DUI. It may not be that high but it is at least 10x to 1.
I will tell you that if someone gets hurt and you are drinking then there is a good chance you will be going to prison.
I hate defending DUI cases in court.
Well this post proves my theory that you are a worthless lawyer.
This post proves my theory that the standards for proving theories has gone way down in the past few years.
So when you were in college you never drove after drinking? If so, I'd say you are one of the tiny percentage of college students, particularly at Tech. No excuse, and it was extremely stupid, but there it is. What I doubt about you is that you know anything about Joe's situation, and should be careful to draw conclusions from long distance. I'd say it's a pretty safe bet I'm right.I never said I haven't made a bad choice, I'm just smart enough not to drink and drive....with weed....around a college campus....after I just got hired for a great job. As for you doubting me, I couldn't care less.
Just a question here please do not blast me for it, but was Joe one of the "Flunkgate" athletes who was ineligible, but played anyway?
I agree with what you're saying, but here's the thing: people are going to draw their own conclusions anyway, its human nature. Its just that now in the age of message boards, they can make their judgements public without recourse thanks to anonymity. Many of the opinions expressed here, or any board for that matter, would never be made face to face around a water cooler. So when you were in college you never drove after drinking? You sure that coffee wasn't in an open container? Please do note I didn't have an open container, nor a bag of weed, in the car with me.

I get that, I'm just saying we ought to all remember we've done stupid things ourselves and just let it lay. He will get past this or he won't, but he will always be JoeHam and have a special place in Tech history. No need to demonize him or anything. One of the unfortunate decisions I made years ago was not to go to college. I'm probably one of the very few fans who just sort of chose GT to be my team. Do I know about Joe's situation? No. Neither do you and probably 90% of everyone else on this board. Like dressedcheeseside said, everyone is going to draw their own conclusions.
I was watching a basketball game between NCSU and GT with my mother and became fascinated with the Yellow Jackets. I couldn't have been anymore than 9 or 10 years old. Ever since then, I've been a HUGE Tech fan. My Jeep has Tech on it front and back, I have Buzz tattooed on my arm, and half my wardrobe is Georgia Tech clothing. You 're right, we've all done stupid things. The only difference is Joe got caught. I really wish we could've seen him mentoring the new QB's though.I get that, I'm just saying we ought to all remember we've done stupid things ourselves and just let it lay. Oh, and kudos to you for having the good sense to pick Tech to follow. It shows true class and outstanding intellect. Whether you went to Tech or not, you sir are truly a jolly good fellow.
You have Buzz tattooed on your arm?! You, my friend, are a true fan!!I was watching a basketball game between NCSU and GT with my mother and became fascinated with the Yellow Jackets. I don't understand. Has anyone disagreed with anything you wrote? The point some are trying to make is we need to leave it at that. Those who are spouting off about Joe's "condition" and what he needs to do have no clue of his situation. The only thing that really matters now is that he can't work here, he needs our support in whatever he does next, and maybe, someday, he can get back to Tech if that's what he wants.I understand what you guys say about not knowing what his circumstances were, but Joe didn't have a thermos full of coffee...he had an open alcoholic drink. He wasn't going to pick someone important up because they were in trouble...he had marijuana in his ash tray. I'm just not sure what situation could surround these circumstances that would make it in any way forgivable. Not saying he should be locked up for life or anything, but I certainly would not want him back with Tech for a long, long time.
