John Bond quote is not something you hear much....

I feel his pain since for the past five ;years we havent even scratched the top fifty.Hope we turn it around.

That brings up an interesting point of discussion:

What rank offensively will keep you from being disappointed?

If we're in the top 30, and complete 55% of our passes, I'll be happy.

I think you have to look at a couple of things.

1) Lots of experience on offensive line. The line was much better last year than the year before and there should be no reason why it doesn't get better this year.

2) Running back position is solid.

3) Given the two above, the running game should be stellar (and that's also what Bond's offenses have been known for)

4) If the running game is stellar, it provides two things. First, it opens up the passing game, and we will have a QB that it better throwing the ball, no doubt. Second, it allows us to control the clock, keeping the defense and the other team's offense off the field.

5) IMO, the main reason why we lost both the UGAy and WF game was the defense "gave out" at the end of the game from being on the field to long.

Given all of that, with a little luck, this could be a season to remember.......for good things.

I'm not that concerned about offensive ranking ...well, yes I am in that I don't want to be as anemic as what was on display in several games last season (recalling UNC, UGA, WF in particular). I'd be happy finishing in the upper-half of all Div. 1 teams in total offense (so I guess 59 or better would do it), would like for the D to be in the top 30 (25%).

I'm with 'nc' though, just give me wins.

I want the kind of offense in which a two-score deficit doesn't mean the game is over. That would be a welcome change.

first off i like having new blood dealing with our offense.

one thing does concern me though. At times I remember the defense appearing to take it easy this past season when our offense was rolling. It seems that they are just not use to playing in a situation where they have a little cushion on the score board.

With the way things are setting up, this offense could be one that puts alot of points on the board. I just hope our defense is more use to it this time around and keep playing like its 0-0 even if we get up for a couple of scores or more.

That's a fair point.

You certainly don't hear that kind of thing from coaches very often. I look at it as a public challenge to our offense from their new leader telling them that he knows he can lead a top 20 offense and they better be ready to step up to the plate. I think he is also basing that on what he feels he has in Taylor as his field general.

With this guy as our OC and us blowing out ND in the opening game with 200+ rush yards (;)) I want to see TC for the Heisman!

Uh, if we have a Top 20 offense and our usual defense, we're going to blow the socks off of this league.

Jacket, I agree but I'm a little concerned about our defense this year, particularly at DB and DT.

But I like this guy already. I love his comment about "up tempo". I just get the feeling that we won't be seeing too many wasted timeouts anymore.

I am not too worried about a defense with 8 returning starters...7 of which are seniors. There is a lot of experience there....and both CG/JT think they can shut people down relatively easily this year.

Of course, all special teams return plus some talented new kickers to compete for kickoff duty.

Offensively you just have to figure out how to replace 1,000 yds of relatively easy passing yardage to a superfreak...plus break in a new signal caller...and that will be ok.

Schedule is about the same as last year.

I agree, with the one small exception that I think we'll wind up thrashing the Irish.

i think our schedule is little easier this year. Last year, each of the toughest teams we faced, uga, VT, WF, Clemson (before their melt down) we did so away from home. This year, just at first glance seems as though we face the toughest teams at home.

One could make the argument it is harder.

We traded a team we have dominated in NCState for a game against a much tougher Boston College.

We are AT Virginia where we have not won since 1990!!!...17 years!!!

We have Miami on the road and VT at home...instead of the opposite last year which is a wash.

A lesser Notre Dame team on the road may even be more difficult than last years team at home...but we can call it a wash.

Georgia at home...but with SEC officials...probably a wash.

Yeah, no joke. And in that timespan, we've lost some rediculous games. Like in 1999, when Joe Hamilton was outplayed by the UVA longsnap holder in as their 4th string QB, and they won on a hook-and-ladder.

Georgia at home...but with SEC officials...probably a wash.
I would always always always take SEC officials over ACC officials, no matter the site. Just have a gander at our last two trips to Sanford, where ACC officials played a HUGE PART in ensuring UGA got the win. I daresay with SEC officials, the 2004 game was 50/50, and the 2006 game was a guaranteed GT win.

In my old coaching days we never posted a win until after the game was played but I agree with bloggers.Several teams have new coaches and usually they play harder since they are doing things different.New coaches like Steve S get folks moving and instills pride in the program. North Carolina will bear watching, new coach and good athletes.Miami at Miami and new coach and real good athletes.BC is a class act but may be alittle down since they also have new coach.Clemson is Clemson, wouldnt ever bet on oragains them.Ga is weak on offensive line but seems to find players when they need them.I think they are ready to be had if we get offensive production this year.Virgina is tough at home so we shall see.It will be interesting year for us old guys.
