John Drew?

I hate to hear that.

Is he committing elsewhere or did he just open his recruitment back up?

Opened it back up. But i would bet anything that he doesnt come to tech now. Oh well who really cares.

Yep, gone.

Dad apparantly said that he didn't want to go to school in the big city...

Well that didn't take long....Just another example of why not to get excited about any so-called "commitments" until they sign an LOI in February.

I have a hard time buying that excuse at face value. He committed 4 months ago. I'm sure he didn't just realize that Atlanta is in a big city.

He probably realized that Tech's academics are harder than a football factory's.

It's probably a case that he was flattered that we were giving him so much attention when others weren't. Other (larger) schools are now coming into the picture and paying him some love, so he wanted to open things up. Much easier to say that he didn't like the big city than to say he was looking to trade up...

I agree that it is nearly impossible to determine what his reasoning was for decommitting...However, the end result is the same....He's looking around and he's a young kid who is a bit unpredictable. Does this behavior demonstrate him being immature, confused, or just getting caught up in all the "recruiting hype"?
SMoney I think there's some validity to most of your statements on this issue....
I just wonder if we end up pulling his offer or if PJ would allow him to committ again? Maybe that is a better argument/bigger issue?

The Ohio State Rivals aligned recruiting site says that Duke, Vandy, Auburn, Alabama, Boston College and Mississippi St. are going after him most heavily.

I couldn't agree more about the entire flattery / hype angle.

Being from Columbus, maybe Phil Wheeler was part of the early recruiting and his departure for the Colts may not have helped us, either.

I went to the same high school as him and also have seen him at a few parties, I was more excited about him going to Tech than he was...this was a little over a month ago.

Maybe just like when we applied to college (in my case many many years ago) we applied to the ones we really wanted to get into and also to a "fall back" school so that if we didn't get into Tech, Vandy or Northwestern, we would still have someplace to go in September instead of Viet Nam.

Harsh as it seems, we might have been this kids "fall back scholarship".... it almost hurts to say that.

This stinks, hope Big John reconsiders and ends up at Tech. I remember back in 1999 a guy named Recardo Wimbush saying the following, " I enjoyed the players and coaches at Alabama," I really like the small town atmosphere, and I'm a small town boy. I liked Georgia Tech, but Atlanta is a little too big for me."

But in the end the pride of Blakely, GA (Early County) ended up a Yellow Jacket! Honestly, living in a small town, everytime I go back to Atlanta I am a bit in awh myself. So I can understand a young kid being a bit scared of a big town. That being said, you have to grow up. I think we all know this is a cover, would Mr. Drew turn down a high paying job in Atlanta??

Based on this it would seem he had better be nice to Green Bay coaches and Admin if he has any NFL aspirations.

;-P

That's the way it smells to me. If he and his family are that shallow or stupid we don't need them corrupting the gene pool. In any event, I think he and his whole family owe us an apology. Not just an "I changed my mind."

Good riddance.

i apologize that i have changed my mind based on developing circumstances to do what i think is best for my future. i am 18 years old.

how ridiculous, gnatsforbrain. you owe us all an apology for such a stupid suggestion. Good riddance? please, get a grip! you act like he owes you something, what have you given him to warrant that?
these are kids, making decisions about their future, they dont owe you or anyone anything other than telling them the truth. would it be better if he just signed with someone else on signing day?

get off your high horse!

Well he has commited to duke! Hope he enjoys losing seasons and no bowl games. I also hope him lee butler and sean renfree enjoy losing to Georgia Tech. Have fun getting chop blocked!

Long time 'till signing day. If Drew is this maleable he could change his mind again. Doubtless lots of teams will be trying to pry him away from Dook.

However, if he does remain at Duke I do hope it turns out to what is best for his life. Disappointing for me as a fan, but he has to make the best decision he can.

As far as Duke goes, I say no mercy.
