Look, not gonna comment on rumored shenanigans with the high up mucketymucks, but there's huge upside with PJ.

The man won NCs (plural) at GSU, with Georgia boys. He's won consistently at Navy, who has recruiting and admission standards that make Tech's restrictions look liberal.

The average SAT of his team is 1240...he told a friend of mine "Imagine what I could do with 200 more points to recruit with". And he knows the state of Georgia, recruiting wise.

Quite frankly, he seems to me to be the perfect fit for GT.

Hey, I was excited about Hatcher and Muschamp, but if we ain't gonna roll the dice with young unproven blood, then PJ is probably the best we could do. And he may turn out to be better than the youngsters.

He took over Navy which was 0-10 the previous season and went 8-5 in his 2nd year.

1240 is 100 points below average at Tech too. ;)

I wasn't a fan of his but I have warmed to him. I'm just ready for this to be over.

beating Notre Dame

@ ND meant more to that program than we can imagine. They would hate to lose him. It was a long time between George Welsh and Paul Johnson and they will be hard pressed to get that kind of quality next time around as the up and coming gems are being scoffed up by the bigger programs these days.

I'm bumping this because it's becoming apparent that Johnson's the man.

Some don't like him because of his offense. I say, let's see what he does when he has true D1 talent to work with.

I actually agree.....as I look at it more, he's got the full suite of qualities that we're looking for. In fact, I'm pretty excited about the possibility!

Maybe he can improve on the 8th best scoring O. I think that is what Navy is ranked. What PJ needs is a defensive coordinator. One who can poach the team for the most talented athletes. I wonder where we can find one of those?

I have become a PJ fan. I hope we get him to end this mess.

He honestly just doesn't seem to fit the mold of the person we set out to get in my eyes. I am not excited about him at all, but he isn't going to stop me from going to the games or anything.

Sure will suck to lose Renfree - the one true pure pocket passing qb we would have had in the past 6 years (excluding threet)...Not saying that I know for a fact we would lose him, but I could certainly see it. Maybe Chris Jackson too?

and probably 300 above the average for the football team:)

PJ has a really good defensive coordinator in Buddy Green. Green has been VERY loyal to PJ. Green was the DC at NCSU, his alma mater, under amato in Amato's first season there. Green turned around a terrible defense returning 3 starters into arguably one of the top 2 in the ACC in 2000. When PJ got the Navy job, he left NCSU to join him.

Check out his bio on the navy website. Sorry I cannot provide a link. On my iPhone at work.

Dude.

If Renfree was coming to Tech under CHAN GAILEY then I'm sure he'll come to Tech no matter who the coach is.

It's not like we had some sort of proven track record of cranking out top 20 quarterbacks or anything.

So we get buddy and lose giff? Talk about sending our recruiting back a few years...

Lose Giff AND Tenuta. A week ago I never thought I'd say this, but we should not have fired Gailey.

And I can't stand Gailey as a coach.

Navy's defense this year is ranked right around 100th in the nation. They got into a shootout with a terrible ND team.

I would take JT or even an unproven Giff over who they have. The worst we can do isl flip-flop back to the 1999 version of GT.

I would be happy about PJ being our next coach. If you look back over his career he has adapted offenses to meet team strengths. He threw all over the place at Hawaii, and he ran more option spread (ala West Va) becuase of the talent he had to work with at Navy. I believe he has the ability to adapt depending on our Starting QB. Obviously, Nesbitt would require a different package then Bennett (or Renfree).

He said the avg of the TEAM is 1240. What's the avg of our TEAM? Not general student body.
