Join the Dwyer Brigade!

I think I will leave it to the GTAA to promote him at the right time and with the right message.

Right now we are a system team until proven otherwise, which means Dwyer is a system player until proven otherwise. This is the year that we can prove the "system" is just as good as any pro set. That means that next year(assuming we do so, which we will), Dwyer can prove that he is just as good as any player in the country, and mabe the best.

IMO You can say the same thing about Big 12 quarterbacks colt mccoy and sam bradford. They run a system that is oriented to the pass, but nobody will hold that against them when they are making their run for the heisman this year. I dont think JD will win it this year, mainly because our backfield is so loaded, I just think its unfair for analysts to call him a "system-back" when these two QB's are "system-quarter backs." But you're right, its ultimately a popularity contest. (i.e. Tebow Kool Aid)

The difference is that Oklahoma and Texas have proven that they can win on a high level with those systems. Those systems are considered legitimate strategies by the media at large. We have yet to do that. I don't think that our system will hold back Dwyer next year IF we prove that we're a legitimate team this year. However, if we go 8-5, he can get all the great stats and great plays he wants, no one is going to pay any attention to it.

there's no way we couldve won 9 games in 08. oh wait.

stranger things have happened. its football. people get hurt. big teams lose to little ones. you cant give the heisman away before the season starts.

why not be optimistic? oh wait im on a tech message board.

whether he has a chance or not (who knows at this point) why not support the d train. im sure hes lovin the support.

any chance of selling these at games?

i'd love to add this to my joe ham for heisman and the choice for heisman shirts.

Yeah, they'll be available at the Mash on the Gas tailgate, too. More details closer to game days, but we'll definitely bring the shirts and hope to meet some folks.

Windy,

your link to dwyerbrigade in your signature is a faulty link, btw. You can get to it after clicking on it -- but the first time is faulty.

Give me a break...."here's your sign"

They've proven what? That they can win on a high level against each other.

They haven't done that in BCS Championship performances for damn sure.

Those proven systems look great against UF huh?

Freakin' moron

Well, yes. They've proven that they can compete for their conference title with those systems. We haven't done that. We didn't even make our conference title game, and if you can't make your conference title game, the media isn't going to pay you much mind.

You really are clueless. Did you really expect us to compete for the Conf Title last year? If you say yes, you're an F'n Liar.

Most people didn't expect us to perform at the level we did

However, we did PROVE ourselves last year (excluding LSU where CPJ was outcoached for the first time all year)....and due to that, MANY are predicting us to compete this year.

That's how it works.......

Do us a favor and quit "Copy and Pasting" Kirk Herbstreit, and June Jones' rants, opinions, and insights

Do you get your football insight from EA Sports or what?

I know where you're coming from, but a media person will just say "but the ACC is so weak, you had it easy" or something like that.

Maybe, Maybe Not.....we just need to win

Quit worrying about Preseason polls, heisman candidates, etc

Just play ball and win...period

Yes, I understand. I agree that we weren't expected to compete for the conference title last year and that we outperformed expectations. And I know that many think we can compete at a high level this year. But we're talking about the Heisman, and to win the Heisman a player has to be on a team which has established itself as successful at a high level.

We haven't done that yet. Texas and Oklahoma have, many times, so their players will receive the benefit of the doubt with regards to being "system players." Dwyer won't have that luxury. It won't be until near the end of the season, assuming we are doing very well, that people start to consider the triple option as truly legitimate at a high level, and by that time it will be way too late for Dwyer. However, that would set him up to have a good chance if he decides to come back for his senior season.

Here is a telling stat for you: if you look at all the Heisman winners in the 2000s, every single one of them was on a team that finished the prior year ranked in the top 10. In fact, most of them were in the top 5. That's just the way the Heisman works; a team has to have very high success one year and enter the next season ranked highly to have one of its players win. It's a popularity and exposure contest.

Please contact GTAA Compliance before selling any more merchandise with JD's name on it. (And you're not the only one currently doing this.)

Way to be a buzz kill, man.

Haha. Didn't Calvin lose his eligibility for like 30 minutes over a t-shirt like this?

Don't know about the eligibility part, but I do remember the AA asking folks to quit with the Calvin for Heisman t-shirts.

Might also want to avoid the unauthorized use of the Heisman trophy image.

Thanks, I'll look more into it. I didn't use Dwyer's image and looked some, figuring it was fine. Mostly because so many other teams had t-shirts w/ people's names made.

And we aren't selling them for profit, just for the cost of production back, which I figured would help. But I'll make sure.

Just wanted to give the guy some support. Don't want to get anyone in trouble.
