It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that people are divided about Chan. Like it or not here I go!
Chan Must GO IF...
1.Anything less than .500 Chan should go! Wins over BYU,Clem,Vandy,WF,DUKE,NC should be expected. If we don't beat all of these then we better upset either a FSU, UVA, UGA,AU,NCST or Maryland. (6-6 nothing worse!!!) If you say anything worse and he stays then I am really worried about YOUR expectations of our football program!!
2.The UGA game is a must!! It doesn't have to be a must win, but a must..fight to the end,get after their ass game!! Respectable!!
3.There must not be anymore of this losing a whole recruiting class to academics. 1 or 2 is expected but 4 or more at one time is not acceptable!!
WITH THAT SAID..
1. 7-5 and anything above, ALL of the critics MUST go silent!! This would mean beating everyone that we should beat with an upset or two!
2.Chan must have success recruiting..top 25 classes. Whether you like it or not fans don't get excited about 10 diamonds in the rough! Fans want to follow top recruits!!This excites fans and when fans are excited.. tickets sale
Go Chan and GO JACKETS!! JUST WIN!!!!!!!!!

i like your post. however, there is a gray area somewhere. there is a gray area between Chan MUST go and all critics MUST go silent.

I think that a break even requirement on the 4th toughest schedule in the land without an experienced QB, a dearth of RB's, and the loss of so many of our SA's to academics is just too high.

i hope i am the biggest crow eater of all but, i cant see 6 wins , if we dont win 2 of the 1st 4 we will tank. we cannot assume we will win any road games including byu and vandy and wake. i just cant help looking at the last 2 games of last season. in my 46 years of following gt football i have never hurt so bad.

I will go to each game hoping we'll win - it's been done before but Patriot - your post I'm in total agreement with. All that you mentioned is pertinent to having this program succeed and in the end fans that are excited and a stadium filled.

Good post Patriot..

My take on things are a little different.. it amazes me that some on this board like to point to last year as our "moment of decline"... I dont see it that way... in my opinion, our peak was 1998 and we have not maintained our competitive level since 1998... things really snowballed in 2001 (preseason #9, only to finish with 7 regular season wins.. ) and 2002 was not fun for anyone...

In my opinion, 2002 would have been much different if we could have found a QB and kept a running back healthy, and had been a little deeper on the defensive line ... throw Godsey and Burns on the 2002 team and you have a 10 win season.. I believe that..

Many like to point to our collapse last year.. and we did collapse.. but that isnt the only time in recent memory that we have declined late in the season.. in 1999, we finished the season 2-3 over the last 5 games, with a loss to a Grobe-less Wake Forest..and a controversial win against Georgia.. in 2001 we finished the season 2-3.. losing to Georgia, FSU, and Virginia.. none of those should have been losses... even Bobby Bowden commented before the 2001 game that we looked like we were going through the motions.. and we did..

I think we should give Coach Gailey the chance to do his job.. it seems to me that many are just looking for reasons to dislike the guy.. (of course, losing to Georgia by 44 points certainly helps their case... I didnt like that either) .. many fans have attacked his style, his diction, even the color cap he wears.. many have made up their minds based on reports from a 19 year athlete who is a friend of a friend's cousin... Chan has gotten less support than Ross did when we couldnt beat anyone... I would wager a bet that few of them have even spoken to the man...

My position..

I dont want us to just compete with UGA, I expect us to beat them EVERY year..

I expect us to win every game, expect us to play tough, sound football.. there is NO REASON why we cant shouldnt compete at the highest level every year... but realistically, we havent competed at that level but two years since 1967

I dont care about the "high profile" recruits.. just get the right guys who can play ball, make the grades, and WANT to be at Tech... there is no way anyone can make me believe that we cant find 25 guys in the US every year who will fit this profile...

These are the things I expect, but I also expect us to give the man a chance to do his job.. one or two years doesnt do that.. and like it or not.. our "recession" hit 2001 WITH Godsey and Burns and Campbell, last year was just a continuation of the that recession..

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">TML.. let me refresh your memory a bit..

1980 waxing to Georgia..

1990's waxed numberous times by FSU and a humiliating 1994 48-10 defeat by Georgia..

Last year was not the first time we lost to Wake Forest... and was not the first time we lost to them when we should have won... the loss to them in 1999 bothered me more than last years

Last year was not the first year we stunk up a bowl appearance.. if you want a couple from years ago.. just remember the Peach Bowls of the 70's.. if you want one more recent just look at the Peach Bowl of 2000.. we stunk up the dome in the second half..

while I agree that the games against the Bulldogs.. (both of them) were inexcusable.. lets not pretend that this is a first at Tech.. its not.. and its not something that Chan brought with him in his suitcase..

I predict (38 yrs experience as a GT fan/alum) that there is going to be a favorable surprise this year - we will luck out and win some that we are not expected to win.

The most important thing is an on-field commander in the form of a sharp quarterback.

One thing that I think really hurts Chan is the way does his PR work! At this level a head coach must be a good PR man and I think that Gailey is. However,he does better when meeting people face to face. He does not use the media as a useful tool in my opinion! *For the record I thought that Chan was a good hire! Now I'm trying to wait this season out and then place judgement.

Real good posts, jacketguy.

Patriot, I think the real division is between Chan-haters and the give-the-guy-a-fair-shot crowd. I'm one of ghost's FOCers, which means to me Friend of Our Coach/ Friend of Chan.

"Give the guy a fair shot" is where I am. For some reason, such an attitude shrieks "Loser" to some people. I guess they're bringing something in addition to being a Tech fan to the board.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">No,...I'm bringing nothing but "bleeding Old Gold" and I'm ashamed of Gailey. If he had any honor, he would have resigned after the season. He is killing our program. We will rue the day he set foot on campus. Give him a chance,...to do what,..turn us into a Vandy or Duke?

GATA JACKETS!

Patriot.. I like your title for this thread, "Judging Chan"...

ORDER IN THE COURT !! ALL RISE FOR THE HONORABLE BEEBAD.. COURT IS NOW IN SESSION... THE TRIAL OF chandler gailey WILL NOW COMMENCE...

PROSECUTION.. CALL YOUR FIRST WITNESS, PLEASE...

Lets face it...the only games we will be favored in are UNC, Duke, and Vandy...no more than 5 games. We may be favored against Clemson at home. It depends on the first three games for each. Depending on the first 6 games it is a very real possibility that WFU could be favored in this away game. They beat us last year...and Hamilton's senior year with an Orange Bowl and Heisman Trophy on the line.

We will not be favored in 7 games against BYU away, Auburn, FSU away, NCState, Maryland, Virginia away, and Georgia.

Like I say...

BeeBad, you had better wait until you have a better case. I think law-bee would verify that you would lose your case at this time on facts and circumstantial evidence in favor of Gailey.

The judge will not allow any thing that you cannot prove. He will not even allow you to talk about the coming year.

I would definitely love to take this case before a judge and jury. Talk about getting a stomping in the courts, the Chan haters would not have a leg to stand on.

That is a terrific idea. Law-bee can be the judge. I will be the defense attorney, and the whole lynch mob can be the prosecuting attorney.

Everybody game?

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Patriot you act like GT has always recruited a top 25 class! 1 that i can remember right off hand and it was a low 1 at that. GT has always recruited alot of diamonds in the rough. Can you explain to me what is it that you think GT should do .PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

What we often get in recruiting are PLAYERS THAT LOVE TECH! They may not be rated five stars by rivals, but they love tech and come to play hard EVERY DOWN!

Kelly Rhino, anyone?
