IF coach Gailey were to go to the Dolphins. One guy who I would consider is Grobe at WF. To me,guys who can win championships at Wake or Duke (Spurrier) are the best of the best. Yes,the league was down but GT,FSU,VT,BC,Clemson, etc.did not exploit that. Grobe's team did and competed well against a good Louisville team in the OB. With a freshman QB as well. Your candidates?

Disclaimer: this is not saying we ARE losing CCG. Just a "what if" scenario.

...Spurrier...

Yes, because we need more hatred from UGA fans. That would push the rivalry over the top. Heck, it might even push my marriage over the top. UGA's hatred towards Spurrier is unmatched by any.

I would start with Chris Petersen (?) who displayed his offensive genius in the bowl game against OK. If he said no then I would consider Chris Hatcher at VSU, another great offensive mind who knows the state of GA and would relate well to the instate recruits have verbals from.

Grobe is certainly a coach I would talk too. He has demonstrated significant ability to win at a school with high academic standards.

Grobe's not an option for Tech. No way he would leave Wake for another conference school, that's just not the way he works.

I'm hoping if we need a coach Fisher from LSU is on DRad's speed dial.

Chili, not sure why the sarcasm

I'm sure either Spurrier or Belichick will jump at the opportunity.

GT is an obvious step down for the two you named. Are you implying that Grobe would not consider Tech or be considered by GT? I would argue that Tech is a step up for him, although he has probably earned cosideration for a much "bigger" job. NCJacket has already suggested that Grobe would not consider Tech because it is within the same conference. Can you explain further as to why he would not move within conference as other coaches have (OBrien,Tuberville,Curry to name a few).

If not Tenuta, then:

Bud Foster
Chris Peterson
Jim Grobe
Norm Chow
Jim Mora Jr. (Probably will get NFL HC)
David Cutcliffe
Jimbo Fisher

Guess which one of these names doesn't belong.
Otherwise, very solid.

Absolutely not. There was a guy by the name of Hal Mumme which was an "offensive genius" that came from VSU and went to Kentucky and flat out sucked. What's Hatcher going to do? Mumme had a better resume than Hatcher.

We need to ask ONE person for this job, IF it were opened. PAUL JOHNSON! The guy KNOWS Georgia, has coached successfully at a military academy and obviously could adjust to Tech's rigorous academic management. This guy is a winner and a perfect fit for GT.

And I don't care about his offense. He coached a passing offense at stints with Navy and Hawaii prior to landing at Georgia Southern where he won a D-1AA National Championship on his way to coaching the Naval Academy.

Spurrier is obviously not going to leave for GT if he didn't leave for Bama but since when is GT an obvious step down from USC? They've had back to back coaching legends there and haven't done as well as GT with O'Leary and Gailey - neither of whom anyone would confuse with a legendary coach.

The low opinion of the program in the minds of some of our fans amazes me.

Maybe step down is a poor choice of words but I don't think many people would assume that GT's advantages (state of Ga. to recruit in,rich tradition, nice facilities) offset its disadvantages (limited curriculum (sp?) and difficult academics, small stadium and fan base, etc.) enough to make it an attractive alternative for anyone already working at a large state university, especially in the South and Southeast with possible exception of the schools in Mississippi or Kentucky.

BoR, after reading your post about the OC/letter to DRad the other day, I was hoping you'd announce as a candidate (Maybe you are and this is just part of the stealth campaign?).

Re: Chili, not sure why the sarcasm

I'm saying that Grobe understands that Wake Forest would consider it a betrayal if he were to leave for another school in the conference and I think he would agree. They have given him pretty much everything he's asked for and I think he's truly commited to the school and the fans. The kind of guy he is, I'm not sure he would leave period, but if he did it would be for a premier job. As much as I love Tech, that ain't us.

As to the examples you named, Tuberville has no class anyway, O'Brien felt that BC was not committed to football and Curry didn't have a choice to leave Alabama. None of those circumstances have anything to do with Grobe.

Paul Johnson. End of discussion.

Paul sure did screw the pooch against BC by putting his team in a position to fumble the ball...along with a 20 yrd. loss on it...instead of just running the clock out.

They pitched the ball deep in the backfield instead of securely handing off...the ONLY thing they could have done to lose was fumble.

I only read through the posts quickly, so forgive me if I missed these names, but I would think at least one if not both of them would be thrown into the hat:

-Ken Whisenhunt, if he isn't offered the Steelers or Falcons job, which he may be;
-Bob Davies, former Notre Dame H/C

Davies? Davies? Why on earth would we want Davies? He couldn't recruit at Notre Dame for chrissakes.

I agree. Bob Davies would barely be above Gerry Faust on my list (Faust is probably pushing 70 now anyway).
